Department: IT
Reporting to: Head of Software Engineering
About the role
Acting as an important member of our Development Team, our Software Engineers are passionate
about solving challenging technical problems. You will be utilising Agile methodologies to deliver high
quality software on a fortnightly cadence. You’ll work closely with other Engineers, pair programming
and working together to write clean code, while also contributing towards designing and implementing
solutions within our platform.
In this role, you will:
 Follow a directed, focused program working towards demonstrating understanding and
application of all the technology paradigms that are utilised at Mortgage Advice Bureau.
 Identify things you do not think understand and seek support from the most appropriate peer.
 Work towards contribution to increasingly more advanced technical solutions that support
day-to-day operations with assistance from your more experienced peers.
 Begin to peer review fellow Software Engineers’ work, offering constructive feedback where
relevant and contribute to planning and design sessions.
 Work with your team to support client and internal queries in relation to your specific domain,
helping resolve issues that might impact service delivery and work in the agile methodology of
the department.
 Learn to deliver clean code that aligns with our software engineering best practices.
 Contribute to your team’s scrum ceremonies, including daily stand ups, sprint planning,
refinement and retrospectives.
About You
Full training will be provided to ensure you can quickly get up to speed, but to be successful in this
role you need to demonstrate the following attributes:
Technologist
Passionate about technology, and a real drive to aspire to a long term development career. Ideally
familiarity to back end and/or front end development using C# and/or Angular, but those with
experience with other technologies would be considered.
You will be provided with on the job training, resources and support by the team but would be
expected to have demonstratable experience in development, via contribution to projects as part of
your academic career or ideally via industrial experience as a junior with another organisation. Any
experience from self-learning demonstrating a genuine passion to learn is considered a bonus.
Agile
To you, agile is more than just a buzzword. You’ll be onboard with agile and experienced in its use.
You’ll understand the problems it sets out to overcome, the importance of communication and the
value of iterative development.
Problem Solver
You may not have all the answers to solve any given problem, but you know how to tackle a
challenge head on. Using all the resources at your disposal, you can hunt down proposed solutions
and collaboratively implement a working solution.
