Integration Test and Trials Engineers

Here at QinetiQ we are looking for IT Infrastructure & SW Test Engineers to join our Secure Communications, Networks, Data Analysis & Software (SECNDS) Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to take part in a novel programme building critical deployable IT infrastructure within the Defence environment that will offer the individual further development.

The QinetiQ SECNDS Team is looking for individuals with the skills necessary to help us to design, build, test and maintain through life, the deployable and operational IT systems that Defence requires. This opportunity will place you at the heart of the modernisation of Defence’s deployable IT estate and requires individuals who can work at MOD and QinetiQ’s sites across the South of England, supporting customers who are building IT infrastructure using agile methods. Role Description:
The Integration Test & Trials/Live Service Test Engineer will be required to operate as part of a core test team within an enterprise scale development environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the creation of Test Scripts, and undertaking the Test Execution required, for the critical systems under development. Undertaking testing at different testing levels and over multiple test cycles, the successful candidate will report to the programme IT&T Test Lead undertaking formal & informal testing as directed by the Test Managers in alignment with the Programme’s defined Test Strategy and associated Test Plans.
Responsibilities:
- Identifying test criteria and developing test scripts from low level documentation,
- Identifying test criteria and developing test scripts to support monthly BAU patching cycles (WSUS AV),
- Identifying test criteria and developing test scripts to support change as directed by Programme Change Review Boards,
- Developing new Test Scripts for Central Services,
- Developing and mature Regression Packs in support of monthly testing cycles,
- Weekly Status Reporting,
- Execute test cases (manual or automated) and analyse results,
- Create logs to document testing phases and defects,
- Report bugs and errors to relevant programme teams,
- Help troubleshoot issues,
- Conduct post-release/ post-implementation testing as required,
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle,
- Ensure all Test artefacts are consistent and of the highest quality.
Experience (expected 3 years)
- Proven experience as a Quality Assurance Tester/ Live service Tester or similar role,
- Proven experience in performing functional, non-functional and regression testing of MS windows server products in complex Enterprise environments,
- Experienced in Black Box Testing | White Box Testing | SIT | SAT | UAT | OAT,
- Experienced in manual, automation and test management tools- e.g. HP Quality Centre, ALM, JIRA, Test Rails,
- Experience with documenting test procedures, preparing test documentation including test plans, test scripts, evidence collection, defect reporting.
Essential Skills:
- Well versed with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) testing concepts, Testing methodologies and techniques
- Familiarity with Agile frameworks and regression testing
- Ability to document and troubleshoot errors
- Working knowledge of test management software (e.g. Test Rails)
- Attention to detail
- Analytical mind and problem-solving aptitude
- Strong organisational skills
- Excellent communication skills with diverse audiences
- Ability to respond to changing project time scales and prioritise work accordingly
- SC Clearance is a minimum
Desirable Skills; some or all of the skills listed are desirable
- Knowledge of or experience of military ICT systems
- ISTQB-BCS Certified Tester Advanced Level - Test Analyst
- ISTQB-ISEB Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL)
- MCSA Microsoft Certified Server Associate Windows Servers 2012R2/2016
- VMWare Certified Practitioner (VCP)
- Experience of Confluence/Jira & Remedy. Working within Agile methodologies.
Optional Skills:
- Registered Incorporated Engineer
- A relevant Engineering/IT Degree
