TV Tech: Redefining hiring with hackajob
Overview
YouView is an on-demand TV service with over 70 live free-to-air digital TV and radio channels. It seamlessly combines seven day catch-up on BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4 and My5 with a library of on-demand television programmes and films. A range of quality content is available via on-demand players from Dave, Yesterday and Really imagined by UKTV, Now TV, milkshake!, S4C and STV.
YouView is offered as part of broadband subscription bundles from TalkTalk and BT. It is also available to buy subscription-free from all major retailers and many independent electrical stores including John Lewis, Currys, Argos, Tesco, Amazon, Richer Sounds and Euronics.
The challenge
The main challenge YouView faced was their recruitment process - it typically took too long to get candidates through the interview stages which meant they would go off the market before YouView were able to complete their hiring process.
In addition, the ‘YouView’ brand wasn’t known within the developer community and they struggled to understand candidate motivations, which meant their outreach wasn’t as effective as it could have been.
YouView partnered with hackajob to understand the skill sets available in the marketplace, whilst also creating more awareness of their brand to developers. Because of their above-average time to hire, YouView also needed help refining their recruitment strategy to shorten their interviewing process overall.
The solution
With hackajob’s help, YouView were able to hire candidates from lots of different backgrounds and made several key hires across their Women in Tech initiative.
