Location: We operate a flexible, hybrid working environment with the candidate required to travel to our Winchester office once or twice a week.

Role Purpose 

We’re looking for an experienced IT Platform Manager with a strong background in infrastructure operations and hands-on experience managing platform technologies. You will lead a team of engineers responsible for the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of our core IT platforms including servers, databases, virtualisation, and cloud systems.

Day to Day

• Lead and manage a team of platform engineers across Microsoft, Linux, VMware, and database technologies.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of all enterprise IT platforms, ensuring availability, performance, and reliability.
• Prioritise and manage the team’s technical workload based on business goals and platform performance.
• Drive continuous improvement across systems, workflows, and team capability.
• Own platform budgeting, resource planning, vendor management, and compliance.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with senior leaders and departments to align platform services with business needs.

Skills

• Strong experience leading infrastructure/platform operations teams in a medium to large enterprise.
• Solid knowledge and working experience with:
• Microsoft Servers (AD, O365, etc.)
• Linux environments
• VMware/virtualisation platforms
• Database management systems (e.g. SQL)
• Proven track record of progressing from technical hands-on roles (e.g. Engineer > Team Lead > Manager).
• Experience delivering change, implementing new technologies, and managing platform SLAs.
• Familiar with Agile methodologies and continuous improvement frameworks.
• Confident managing vendor relationships and third-party support contracts.

Knowledge & Experience 

• Substantial experience in IT platform development, with a substantial period spent in senior technical roles
• Substantial experience in leading enterprise-level IT platform initiatives
• Experience of leading IT or software engineering teams
• Expert knowledge of agile methodologies and strategic management.
• Proven track record of driving innovation and continuous improvement.
• Managing multiply technical disciplines 
• Experience leading cross-functional teams, including developers, administrators, and support staff

Qualifications: Relevant qualification (Science or Computer Science or similar) and/or industry experience
