Job Description:
Leonardo has a fantastic opportunity for a Project Engineering Lead position in our Antennas team. The Project Engineering Lead will need to be a talented and experienced Engineering Leader, familiar with working on complex electronic (ideally antenna based) projects and product developments.
The Antennas team works on a wide array of projects for a variety of platforms including land electronic warfare, airborne communications and support to naval communications systems. The PEL will report within the ICS (Integrated Comms Systems) line of business, interfacing with stakeholders on the delivery of multiple projects.
This Project Engineering Lead role will focus on providing team management, technical direction and leadership in conjunction with the Project Chief Engineer, reporting to the Project Engineering Manager.
The Project Engineering Lead will have hands-on experience of leading multi-discipline engineering projects across the engineering lifecycle, managing a diverse range of stakeholder needs and requirements to achieve the desired outcome.
The Project Engineering Lead will also be expected to support business winning opportunities as necessary, including helping with the generation of technical proposals with support from the team and putting together plans and estimates for bids, in accordance with the Engineering Bid Process.
· Management of multi-disciplined Engineering teams, ensuring that roles within the teams are clearly defined.
· Establish and maintain good lines of communication across the Engineering IPT and upwards to the Project Engineering Manager.
· Ownership of the engineering management and project plans.
· Management, tracking and reporting against project milestones.
· Ensuring effective implementation of the company's Life-cycle design reviews, including preparation and presentation of design review material.
· Upward reporting and management of Customer expectations in line with agreed solution
· Supplier and subcontractor engagement; support to Make or Buy decisions as required.
· Control project configuration and change management particularly with regard to design baselines and production build standards.
· Identifying technical risks and mitigation strategies e.g. with test solutions or obsolescence.
· Input to Material Review Boards and Failure Review Boards.
· Concession management – ensuring effective closure plans are in place and enacted.
· Support business winning and customer facing activity to develop the engineering opportunities for the Antennas team, including technical proposals and engineering bid generation.
You really must have:
· Strong technical understanding of antennas and RF based sensor systems, ideally across a variety of platforms and domains.
· Good problem solving ability.
· Good schedule and budget control.
· Good written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
· Good commercial awareness.
· Strong leadership competency but also can demonstrate team working skills.
· Knowledge of engineering life-cycle and business process.
· Degree qualification or equivalent.
It would be nice if you had:
· Experience of working in the defence electronics sector, ideally with land and airborne antenna systems.
· Experience of working with UK MOD (e.g. RAF, DSTL, DE&S)
· An understanding of the deployment of airborne, land and naval military platforms, systems and operation within the enterprise environment.
· Chartered Engineer status, or a member of a professional engineering institution.
