MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Hull Systems Engineer to join our team working in the Washington D.C. Navy Yard. This position will be Hybrid requiring 3 days in office per week.

This position will be directly supporting the Nimitz (CVN68) and Ford (CVN78) Class Aircraft Carrier Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Hull System Engineering Manager.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical support and assess risk for technical decisions for Nimitz (CVN 68) and Ford (CVN 78) Class Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Hull System Engineering Manager (SEM)

  • Provide engineering assessment, research, and problem resolution utilizing operational experience.

  • Provide responses to requests for technical assistance or adjudication received via letter, Departure from Specification (DFS), Liaison Action Request (LAR), Steam Plant Action Request (SPAR), Availability Work Package (AWP) Change Request

  • Participate and coordinate technical approval letters for Ship Alteration (ShipAlts) and Technical Assessment Team (TAT) reviews for Ship Change Documents (SCDs)

  • Review Technical Feedback Reports (TFBRs) for Planned Maintenance System (PMS) changes requiring Designated Technical Representative (DTR) review

  • Coordinate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, TYCOM, PMS 312, PMS 378, SUPSHIP Newport News, Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY), Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS), Ship Repair Facility (SRF), & other activities to resolve technical matters

  • Travel up to 10%

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering from an accredited college or university

  • 7 years of experience with US Navy vessels, structures, coatings, corrosion, damage control, stability, welding, weight and moments, and/or topside design

  • Demonstrated proficiency in reading, analyzing, and writing technical documentation to support system development, integration, or operations

  • Experience communicating effectively with senior government and military leadership and collaborating with diverse technical and non-technical team members

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Worked with or at a shipyard, Naval Surface/Undersea Warfare Center (NSWC/NUWC), Supervisor of Shipbuilding Command (SUPSHIP), Regional Maintenance Center (RMC), and/or Type Commander (TYCOM) supporting construction, operation, maintenance, modernization, and/or repair of shipboard systems

  • Experience working with technical authority

  • Experience working with program managers in an engineering role

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess a current or active U.S. government secret security clearance

Physical Requirements:

  • The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.

  • Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, via email, phone, and or virtual communication, which may involve delivering presentations.
