Software Engineer

Join us as a Software Engineer at Barclays where you will lead hands‑on engineering delivery for our platform and core services, driving the development of scalable, resilient and secure enterprise solutions. You will play a critical role in designing and building Java‑based platforms and APIs, enabling continuous delivery through robust CI/CD pipelines, and ensuring production readiness across the delivery lifecycle.

To be successful as a Software Engineer, you should have experience with:

• Java and Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Security and related frameworks

• API‑led architecture, with strong experience designing and building RESTful services and integration layers

• Container platforms, with hands‑on experience in OpenShift / Kubernetes for application deployment and runtime management

• CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, including build automation, quality gates, security scans and deployment pipelines

• Relational databases, with strong hands‑on experience in Oracle (SQL, performance tuning, schema design)

• Event‑driven architectures, with solid working knowledge of Kafka and asynchronous messaging patterns.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

• Experience with application monitoring and observability tools such as AppDynamics (AppD) and eSaaS / platform tooling

• Strong working knowledge of JIRA, Agile/Scrum delivery models and enterprise SDLC processes

• Experience supporting non‑production and production environments, including release readiness and incident support

• Understanding of enterprise engineering practices, including security, performance, resiliency and scalability.

The role is based out of Pune.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

• Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
