About the department
Aberdeen’s HR Systems Squad sits within the Corporate Technology Office, this is responsible for managing Aberdeen's core HR systems with Workday being its Strategic tool of choice. Aberdeen is live with Workday Core HCM, Recruitment, Payroll, Extend, Talent and Help. We have an exciting roadmap ahead of us to further enhance our systems architecture over the next 3 years and embed and enhance ways or working.
About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HRIS Senior Engineer with deep expertise in Workday to lead the design, development, and optimization of our HR technology ecosystem. This role will serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert, ensuring the Workday platform is configured and maintained to support evolving business needs across HR, Payroll, Talent, and Finance.
Key areas of accountability & outcomes for this role include:
· Support the Product Owner to deliver a Backlog view of all priorities
· Design and maintain integrations between Workday and third-party systems using Workday Studio, EIBs, Core Connectors, and REST/SOAP APIs.
· Partner with HR, IT, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into scalable Workday solutions.
· Manage system upgrades, testing, and integrations with third-party systems (e.g., payroll, benefits, ATS).
· Develop and maintain calculated fields, condition rules, business processes, and custom reports.
· Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
· Provide mentorship and guidance to junior HRIS analysts and engineers.
· Monitor Workday releases and recommend adoption of new features to enhance system capabilities.
· Ensure security roles and permissions are aligned with organizational policies and compliance standards.
· Proactively suggest systems improvements, using business requirements to inform technical design, to process configuration, security set up and testing.
· Ensure presence within Workday ecosystem, connecting with other customers
· Maintain documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures.
IT & Technical Skill Requirements:
· Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, Web Services (REST/SOAP).
· Workday Report Writer, Calculated Fields, Business Process Framework.
· Integration development experience with tools like Boomi, MuleSoft, or Azure Logic Apps (a plus).
· Scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, PowerShell, or JavaScript).
· Familiarity with SQL and data modeling concepts.
· Experience with cloud platforms (e.g.Azure) and SaaS application management.
· Understanding of identity and access management (IAM) and SSO/SAML configurations.
· Experience with Agile methodologies, Jira, and ServiceNow for ticketing and project tracking.
· Knowledge of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and HR compliance standards.
Additionally, the role holder will have:
· Strong stakeholder management and effective communication skills
· Knowledge of Agile Practices
· Ability to proactively identify opportunities for improvements and achieving efficiencies
· Ability to manage competing demands and work across multiple projects
· Strong organisational skills, with an ability for problem solving
