The Division of Psychology and Mental Health is looking to appoint a Research Assistant on a Fixed Term contract (12 months) at 0.8 FTE (4 days per week). The Research Assistant will work on a project funded by the N8 Policing Research Partnership, exploring police wellbeing.

Police wellbeing is an area that has received growing attention in recent years with the recognition that improving wellbeing benefits both police staff and the communities they serve. Despite investment, wellbeing continues to be a significant issue. This study will examine existing national and local datasets to generate a robust, evidence-based picture of current wellbeing among police staff and also explore how staff engage with wellbeing support, including any perceived facilitators and barriers to this. Such insights can inform how police forces can better harness the wellbeing resources and interventions available to them.

This study involves collaboration with Cheshire Constabulary and Merseyside Police, interrogating existing local and nationally available data and conducting qualitative interviews with police staff within our partner forces. As such, the post would suit a researcher with quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis skills. We provide a supportive, training environment where individual skill and commitment is valued and nurtured. The post holder will be expected to ensure data compliance with Cheshire Constabulary, Merseyside Police and UoM operational and requirements in addition to legislative requirements, GDPR, Data Protection.
