We are looking for an inquisitive, passionate professional seeking to progress their career in the BBC’s Security Operations Centre. Under the leadership and guidance of the specialist in the team, your main responsibilities will be to ensure the SOC is best placed to protect the BBC in the current threat landscape and to deal with any incidents as and when they occur. A keen understanding of the latest cyber-attack patterns would be beneficial as well as an inquisitive mindset and desire to learn.
Whilst the SOC does provide 24x7 cover, the majority of shifts are during sociable hours with a minimal requirement to work nights and weekends. (One weekend in four and one set of nights a month). Whilst w do offer flexible and remote working, the role is based in Media City, Salford and there will be a requirement to come into the office on a regular basis (5 designated days every 4 weeks)

Main Responsibilities
Incident Response
• Work as part of a team to ensuring incidents are dealt with appropriately to mitigate any potential risks to the BBC.
• Support the SOC manager and Shift Lead during major security incidents, liaising with other BBC departments as necessary.
• Work on the development of new protective monitoring use cases / runbooks to help detect and remediate security issues, especially where you have identified any gaps in our monitoring capability.
• Provide support to the Digital Forensics team where requested as part of formal investigations.
Threat Intelligence and Vulnerability Management
• Carry out research and produce reports to ensure the BBC is aware of the current threat landscape and we can best protect ourselves against emerging threats.
• Carry out vulnerability scanning to identify areas of risk in the BBC and work with the relevant teams to ensure these risks are quickly mitigated.
Project/Roadmap support
• Work with your Shift Lead to deliver projects within the SOC as part of the Information Security strategic roadmap.
• Identify and work on projects that will improve the SOC’s monitoring and detection capability.

• Experience of working within a SOC and/or using a SIEM tool (ideally Splunk)
• Experience of working in a team in a technical discipline.
• Knowledge of the current cyber threat landscape and an understanding of how organisations can protect themselves in it.
• Highly effective and creative problem-solving skills, across a broad range of scenarios.
• Ability to convey and explain complex technical information to non-technical staff.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work streams effectively and prioritise accordingly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Highly IT literate, able to work quickly and precisely on a variety of systems, often under pressure and to important deadlines.
• Confidence to make decisions where appropriate and to ask for assistance when necessary.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work streams effectively and prioritise accordingly.
