Why we're building Veterans into our Alumni programme for our Global clients:

At mthree, we partner and support some of the world’s leading investment banks to deliver skilled technology talent through our Hire Train Deploy (HTD) model, help bridge that skills gap and help future proof their workforce through our holistic consultant to FTE programme. So far, we’ve had great success with graduates globally, but after extensive research and hours spent with our clients over the past year, we believe veterans can bring something just as valuable, if not more so.

Here’s how and why we want to build veterans into our programme and we would build in a payment structure that worked for them and our clients:

Veterans bring real-world experience that graduates often can’t match.

Military professionals are used to operating in high-pressure environments, making decisions with limited information, and being accountable for critical outcomes — all of which are incredibly valuable in banking tech environments, particularly in roles like cybersecurity, infrastructure, and risk.

Many IB tech roles align closely with military skillsets.

Whether it’s structured problem-solving, technical systems knowledge, or secure communications, there’s often a direct overlap. We’ve seen how quickly veterans can upskill in areas like DevOps, data analysis, or project delivery when given the right training and context.

Our clients want diverse, capable, and reliable talent.

Banks are under pressure to diversify their talent pipelines and improve retention. Veterans bring maturity, discipline, and loyalty — all traits that employers deeply value. We see this as a win for both our clients and the veteran community.

We’re building more than just a job pipeline — it’s a career reset.

Our goal isn’t to just get veterans “into tech” — it’s to support a full transition into a long-term career in financial services technology. That means tailored training, support, and a network that understands both banking and the military mindset.

It’s time to open more doors.

The graduate route has its place, but we know veterans can be just as — if not more — effective with the right support along side that channel / pipeine. Working with veterans is about recognising potential, investing in it, and helping our clients see the incredible value former service personnel can bring to their tech teams.

Technology Infrastructure & Operations

Roles:

  • IT Support / Production Support Analyst
  • Network Operations Engineer
  • DevOps Engineer
  • Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

Why it suits veterans:
These roles require a calm, methodical approach under pressure — exactly the kind of mindset developed in the military. The ability to follow structured processes, troubleshoot critical issues in real-time, and maintain operational continuity makes veterans particularly strong candidates here.

Cybersecurity & Risk

Roles:

  • Cybersecurity Analyst / Engineer
  • Threat Intelligence Analyst
  • Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst
  • Risk & Compliance (GRC) roles

Why it suits veterans:
Those with a background in military intelligence, comms, or security can thrive in cybersecurity. Investment banks take data protection and cyber threats extremely seriously, making this a high-growth area where your experience in defence or classified environments directly translates.

Technology Governance & Project Management

Roles:

  • IT Project Manager
  • Technology Business Analyst
  • Technology Risk Manager

Why it suits veterans:
If you’ve led teams, coordinated operations, or worked on mission planning, these skills carry over well into governance and project roles. Many financial institutions value the leadership and accountability that veterans bring, especially in high-stakes tech transformation projects.

Software Development & Engineering

Roles:

  • Backend / Frontend Developer
  • Quant Developer (with mathematical background)
  • Scripting / Automation Engineer

Why it suits veterans:
If you’ve dabbled in programming or worked with systems in the military, you can build on that foundation here. Many banks use Java, Python, and C++, and there’s growing demand for developers who can work in fast-moving environments where accuracy and performance matter.

Data & Analytics

Roles:

  • Data Analyst / Data Engineer
  • Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst
  • AI / Machine Learning Operations (if qualified)

Why it suits veterans:
Many military roles involve interpreting data or generating intelligence reports — skills that map neatly to analytics roles. If you’re developing skills in SQL, Python, Excel, or tools like Power BI or Tableau, this is a great space to enter.
