Join us as a Engineering Lead - VP at Barclays where you will spearhead the evolution of our infrastructure and deployment pipelines, driving innovation and operational excellence. You will harness cutting-edge technology to build and manage robust, scalable and secure infrastructure, ensuring seamless delivery of our digital solutions. 

To be successful as a Engineering Lead - VP, you should have experience with:

1. Engineering Excellence & Automation‑First Delivery Leadership: Engineering Lead in Liquidity must drive engineering maturity across distributed platforms. This includes: Leading teams in microservices architecture, performance engineering, code quality, secure coding, and engineering modernization. Championing automation-first delivery—CI/CD, GitLab migration, automated DML/tooling, contract testing, and shift-left practices.
2. DevOps, Secure‑by‑Design & Infrastructure Engineering: Responsible for shaping Liquidity’s resilience and operability by Embedding DevOps practices (GitLab pipelines, observability, deployment automation, SRE-style engineering). Driving secure coding, integrating security into SDLC from the start, and partnering with security consultancy teams via LCP processes. Oversight of platform engineering (containerisation, cloud/on‑prem infra alignment, architectural compliance).
3. Scaled Agile Leadership & Team‑of‑Teams Engineering Management: A key part of the role is operating as an Agile change agent across multiple ARTs and cross‑domain teams. Driving engineering alignment, dependency management and flow across teams. Representing engineering in PI Planning, roadmap discussions, architectural ceremonies, and readiness governance. Coaching teams on Agile engineering practices, capacity planning, and continuous improvement.

1. AI/ML‑Driven Engineering & Agentic Developer Productivity: Promoting adoption of GitLab Duo, agentic development workflows, ML‑driven code insights, automated reviews, and AI‑supported diagnostic analysis. Leveraging AI/ML to improve architecture insights, developer productivity, and operational analytics.
2. Architecture‑as‑Code, Documentation Automation & Engineering Governance: Embedding architectural assets within pipelines, data‑quality checks, compliance automation. Ensuring teams maintain design artefacts, align with enterprise architecture, and use automated governance within CI/CD.
3. Strategic Stakeholder, Vendor & Cross‑Platform Collaboration: Orchestrating engineering delivery with internal teams (Liquidity, Payments, RFT, Data) and external vendor teams. Ensuring engineering visibility, technical feasibility input, cross-team dependency resolution, and consistent product/platform alignment.

Purpose of the role

To  lead and manage engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions, driving technical excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives. 

Accountabilities

  • Lead engineering teams effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture to achieve project goals and meet organizational objectives.
  • Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritization to ensure the successful delivery of solutions within scope, time, and budget.
  • Mentor and support team members' professional growth, conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluation and enhancement of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and optimize team productivity.
  • Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
  • Enforcement of technology standards, facilitate peer reviews, and implement robust testing practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.
