## **1\. Role Overview**
Mercor is collaborating with a leading AI lab on a large-scale AI training initiative focused on improving historical reasoning, source-based analysis, and culturally grounded interpretation in advanced language models. We’re seeking experienced History experts to contribute by creating and evaluating history-related prompts and responses.
This is a multilingual opportunity. We are specifically seeking experts who are fluent and deeply engaged in one or more of the following languages:
**Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Russian, German, Arabic, Thai, Tamil, or Hindi.**
Importantly, we are not looking for translation ability alone. Candidates must have sustained engagement with historical study and discourse within their linguistic and cultural context — including familiarity with regional historiography, primary and secondary sources, scholarly debates, and culturally specific interpretations of historical events.
This role is ideal for serious history enthusiasts, independent researchers, writers, educators, archivists, or dedicated hobbyists who actively study and discuss history in their language ecosystem.
## **2\. Key Responsibilities**
- Author realistic history prompts spanning historical analysis, historiographical comparison, primary source interpretation, timelines, and cause-and-effect reasoning
- Review and revise AI-generated responses for factual accuracy, nuance, contextual depth, and cultural authenticity
- Write high-quality human-authored “gold” responses for complex or interpretive historical questions
- Create controlled prompt variations that test subtle differences in time period, geographic region, political context, or historiographical framing
- Evaluate outputs across different tones (academic, explanatory, narrative) and instruction constraints
- Identify model failure cases involving anachronisms, oversimplification, biased framing, or culturally inconsistent interpretations
## **3\. Ideal Qualifications**
- **2+ years of sustained, serious engagement with history as a hobby or scholarly pursuit** (e.g., independent study, historical writing, archival work, participation in history forums or reading groups)
- Active participation in historical discourse within at least one of the following languages: Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Russian, German, Arabic, Thai, Tamil, or Hindi
- Strong familiarity with regional history, historiographical traditions, and culturally specific perspectives within your language context
- Ability to articulate historical arguments and contextual analysis clearly in the target language
- Strong written communication skills and thoughtful editorial judgment
