We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal DOCSIS QA Engineer with deep expertise in DOCSIS and PON technologies, exceptional Python programming skills, and strong experience in test automation frameworks. This role is critical for driving quality assurance in cloud-native, microservices-based applications supporting broadband infrastructure. The engineer will work closely with both internal teams and external stakeholders, including the Harmonic team (remote), as well as chief teams and manual testing teams, to gather requirements and implement automation test cases. Strong cross-functional communication and coordination skills are essential.
What You’ll Do:
Act as a key contributor in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and reliable DOCSIS/PON-based applications.
Collaborate remotely with the Harmonic team, chief engineering teams, and manual QA teams to gather test requirements and translate them into automated test cases.
Design, develop, and maintain Python-based test automation scripts leveraging internal automation frameworks.
Lead or contribute to the development and enhancement of modular, scalable automation frameworks that support both functional and integration testing.
Manage operational quality and contribute to the Core Virtualization project by applying robust testing methodologies and practices.
Troubleshoot complex system issues through strong analytical and debugging skills.
Participate in Agile ceremonies, integrate QA into DevOps pipelines, and ensure a shift-left approach to testing.
Operate in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, actively mentoring junior team members and promoting best practices in QA.
Skills & Experience We’re Looking For:
Strong hands-on Python programming skills – must be able to design and develop complex automation logic and frameworks.
Experience working with Ubuntu/Linux environments and comfort with CLI-based tools and scripting.
Proficiency with test tools such as Ixia, ByteBlower, and general traffic simulation platforms.
Solid understanding of networking concepts, including switching, routing, and network protocols (e.g., TCP, UDP, BGP, ISIS, HTTP/S, multicast).
Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized test environments.
Ability to analyze packet captures, simulate network conditions, and validate end-to-end performance.
Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, and version control using Git.
Ability to clearly communicate technical issues and solutions with internal and external stakeholders.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
BS or MS in computer science, networking, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Hands-on experience with Arris/Cisco/Juniper/Arista switch environments.
Understanding of Redis, Kafka, and microservices-based environments.
Familiarity with network observability tools (e.g., ELK stack, Prometheus, InfluxDB, Grafana, Splunk).
Knowledge of test-driven development, continuous integration, and deployment automation best practices.
Experience working with asynchronous systems, message brokers, and distributed services.
Exposure to protocol buffers, JSON, XML data formats.
Previous experience in broadband technologies (DOCSIS, PON) is a strong plus.
Team Culture & Values:
Mutual respect, trust, and openness to ideas.
Continuous improvement through experimentation and learning.
Technical leadership and mentorship with a growth mindset.
Strong ownership, accountability, and collaborative spirit.
Balance between technical rigor and simplicity.
Enjoyment in our work with a healthy work-life balance.
