Key responsibilities and deliverables
Leading the designing, architecting, and development of new features and services
Maintaining existing services, ensuring operability and security
Close working with Product Owners to make sure requirements are fully understood
Line management for development teams, including target setting and performance management
Influencing the technological direction of Jisc, bringing technology and process improvements to other teams
Implement and manage internal processes for managing software development
Drive process improvement in the team, for better estimates, software quality, and cost efficiency
Day-to-day decision making with teams, in line with Jisc’s software strategy and direction
Maintain an understanding of application usage with colleges and university and their students and staff, ensuring software developed matches their needs expectations
Be flexible about working on different projects as Jisc’s needs and priorities evolve over time
Experience
Need to have
Experience in at least one of: JavaScript/Typescript, Python, C#, Java
Experience taking a lead role in the development of a software application
Nice to have
Experience with:
Terraform, Serverless Framework, Node.js, AWS, Azure, Docker, RESTful API design, React, WCAG accessibility guidelines, mobile development
Experience with agile project management techniques
Experience working in the HE or FE sector
Experience of managing other developers
Skills & personal qualities
Need to have
Ability to act and work both independently and as an enthusiastic team member
Ability to develop expertise in new languages and technologies as required
The ability to mentor other developers and lead them to achieving the team’s goal
A willingness and passion for learning new technology as required
