What you’ll do

 

As a Principal Engineer IP, you’ll lead the planning, development and deployment of high-performance, robust and resilient systems, while overseeing the work quality of the software engineering teams, making sure it meets the technical standards for all output.

 

We’ll need you to take responsibility for the consistent use of shared platform components and technologies within the software engineering teams. Alongside this, you’ll lead engagements with senior stakeholders to suggest appropriate technical solutions to achieve required product features.

 

You’ll also be responsible for:

 

  • Managing the technical delivery of one or more software engineering team
  • Contributing to the best practices for the application development and software development lifecycle
  • Overseeing the definition of the technical strategy and advising on product roadmaps and migration plans to achieve strategy goals
  • Leading the wider participation of internal and industry-wide events, conferences, and other activities, being recognised as a leader in software engineering
  • Writing unit and integration tests in automated test environments to deliver code quality while completing concise, comprehensive technical documentation

 

The skills you’ll need

 

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a background in software engineering, software design or database design and architecture. As well as this, you’ll have significant experience of developing software in a service-oriented architecture or microservices paradigm.

 

We’ll need you to have experience of leading software development teams, while introducing and delivering technical strategies, alongside development experience in one or more programming language. You’ll need knowledge of how to use industry-recognised frameworks and development tooling.

 

In addition, you’ll need:

 

  • An excellent understanding of implementing programming best practices, around scalability, availability and performance
  • Experience of test-driven development, alongside the use of automated test frameworks, mocking and stubbing and unit testing tools
  • Knowledge of project work and commercial development processes, particularly Agile methodologies
  • A background of working in an environment where you’ll understand and translate product and business requirements into technical solutions
  • Knowledge of how to work with code repositories, bug tracking tools and wikis, large-scale databases and NoSQL design and optimisations
