We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to lead development and scaling of our API — the core service that powers our iOS app and React web app. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on high-scale backend systemls, API design, and cloud infrastructure.
You’ll work in a modern stack, help build distributed systems, collaborate closely with our mobile and web teams, and contribute to our fast, iterative development culture.
Design, maintain, and scale our FastAPI-based RESTful API
Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
Optimize API performance and reliability
Collaborate across iOS, web, and product teams
Contribute to technical discussions, code reviews, and architecture decisions
Integrate cloud-native services and AI/ML features
Ensure high standards in testing, security, and CI/CD
Languages/Frameworks: Python 3.8+, FastAPI, async programming
Databases: MongoDB (odmantic), Neo4j, Firebase/Firestore
Cloud: Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Storage, Speech, BigQuery, Tasks, Pub/Sub)
DevOps: Docker, CI/CD, Poetry, Git
Testing & Quality: pytest, flake8, black, mypy
AI/ML: Speech-to-text, text analysis, NLP services
8+ years of software development experience
Strong Python skills and experience with async programming
Experience building and scaling APIs with FastAPI or similar
Solid understanding of RESTful API design and API security best practices
Experience with cloud platforms (especially GCP) and containerization (Docker)
Familiarity with automated testing, CI/CD, and Git workflows
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience with real-time systems, audio streaming, or NLP
Familiarity with OAuth/Auth0 and authentication flows
Exposure to monitoring tools (e.g., Sentry) and load testing (e.g., Locust)
Interest in leveraging machine learning in production environments
Multi-environment workflows (dev, staging, prod)
Git-based deployment with automated test pipelines
Use of modern tools like Poetry for dependency management
Coding standards enforced with flake8, black, and mypy
