ChristianaCare is seeking an accomplished executive to serve as Vice President, Pathology & Laboratory Services. This is a pivotal enterprise leadership role charged with accelerating growth, growing market presence, and elevating laboratory services as a key driver of enterprise value.
The Vice President, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Clinical Essential Services and collaborating with the Department Chair of Pathology, will guide a system-wide laboratory approach across a successful, multi-site health system aiming to expand. This leader will bring a strong executive presence and a demonstrated ability to boost revenue growth, grow operations, and direct transformation in complex, regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Strategy, Growth & Market Expansion
Define and complete a comprehensive, growth-focused laboratory and pathology strategy aligned with enterprise priorities
Drive revenue growth and market expansion through laboratory outreach, new service line development, and strategic partnerships
Identify and implement opportunities to increase market share and position ChristianaCare as a regional leader in laboratory services
Lead the continued integration and optimization of laboratory services across acute, ambulatory, and outreach settings
Position laboratory services as a key business collaborator to clinical, operational, and executive leadership
Executive Leadership & Influence
Serve as a key member of the clinical services leadership team, contributing to enterprise strategy and decision-making
Collaborate with physician leadership, including the Department Chair of Pathology, to ensure clinical alignment and innovation
Build and lead a high-performing leadership team, driving accountability, engagement, and succession planning
Communicate vision, strategy, and performance to senior executives, boards, and key collaborators with credibility and influence
Clinical Quality, Safety & Regulatory Excellence
Ensure the highest standards of clinical quality, patient safety, and regulatory compliance across all laboratory operations
Provide executive supervision for CAP, CLIA, and Joint Commission accreditation preparedness and performance
Advance a culture of continuous improvement, lab stewardship, and evidence-based practice
Operational & Financial Performance
Drive operational excellence, standardization, and scalability across a complex, multi-site laboratory network
Coordinate financial performance, including budget development, capital planning, and cost optimization
Lead strategic investments in automation, technology, and workforce innovation to support growth and efficiency
Innovation & Market Responsiveness
Anticipate and respond to emerging trends in laboratory medicine, including molecular diagnostics and precision medicine
Champion innovation in test menu expansion, digital transformation, and service delivery models
Ensure the organization remains competitive, differentiated, and forward positioned in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related clinical lab field required
Master’s degree in healthcare administration, Business, Health Care Delivery Science, or related field required
ASCP certification (MT, MLS, or specialty certification) required
Minimum of 15+ years of progressive leadership experience, including senior-level oversight of complex laboratory operations
Proven track record in increasing revenue, expanding outreach efforts, and growing programs within a laboratory or diagnostic services setting
Experience in a high-volume, multi-site, CAP and CLIA-regulated environment required
Solid understanding of regulatory standards such as CAP, CLIA, and Joint Commission
Recognized for executive presence, critical thinking, and the ability to influence at the highest levels of an organization

Annual Compensation Range $145,870.40 - $233,376.00
This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
