Location

Given the nature of the work in this role, you'll be required to come onside to our office in Ipswich, Adastral Park, 5 days a week, or our Hemel Hempstead office.

The Business CFO rely on Digital, and more specifically Secure Platforms, to underpin the services that they provide to their customers. This role provides technical deliverables that underpin the service management platforms for Enterprise customers, generating revenue circa 50-60m per annum.

The Infrastructure Design Specialist independently works, executing the vision of key technologies within the infrastructure landscape.

What you’ll be doing

  • Manages the implementation of high-level and low-level designs for stable network and infrastructure environments that meet the needs of BT, are shared with partners, and are compliant with current security, privacy, and audit requirements
  • Provides advanced technical knowledge and expertise where needed to support managers, principals or technical experts to resolve complex issues
  • Leads the collaboration with stakeholders across application development, enterprise architecture, infrastructure and cyber security teams to implement an effective product roadmap
  • Leads the collaboration with technical architects, using advanced technical knowledge and past experience to translate architectural designs into operations
  • Writes documentation and builds tooling that makes the infrastructure easier to use and manage
  • Drives the documentation of the processes, measurements, and assessments required for both individual work and projects
  • Audits and reports on the performance and the overall health of the network and infrastructure and recommends or initiates corrective action or enhancements
  • Champions, continuously develops and shares with team knowledge on emerging trends and changes in infrastructure engineering best practices and industry standards
  • Mentors other infrastructure engineers, helping to improve the team's abilities by acting as a technical resource

Skills and Experience

We are looking for individuals with a range of skills in one or more of the following areas/disciplines, and a good understanding of on-prem infrastructure including, networking, monitoring, firewall management would be an advantage.  

Databases

  • (Oracle, SQL)

Virtualisation

  • (VMware products such as vSphere, Horizon, AppVolumes, NSX Load Balancers, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure)

HPE Hardware and monitoring applications

  • (HPE Storage, Fabric Switches, Backup Technologies)

Microsoft Tech Stack

  • (Active Directory, MS Exchange, MS SharePoint, File Services, Windows Operating Systems)

Operating Systems

  • (Linux (RHEL), Windows Server 2019, Solaris)

Not all of the above boxes need to be ticked, we are looking for candidates that have experience in one or many.

 

The successful candidate will work in a medium size team along with junior and senior infrastructure design engineers, owning the design of the platform and also being 4th line support in a multi-department service model.  Ideally, you’ll have had some operational experience and looking to further your career towards a Solutions Designer, and;  

  • Is eligible to hold a minimum of SC clearance
  • Is able to regularly attend Defence offices as per customer / platform requirements
  • Holds a technical degree or industry-relevant experience or relevant demonstrable knowledge
  • Is able to read, understand and update complex design artefacts
  • Can communicate effectively with a range of customer types across the business, both internal and external
  • Stakeholder management - evidence of managing multiple stakeholders across a variety of roles and seniority levels
  • Is able to develop subject matter expertise in engineering functions such as Service Management, Network Management or Infrastructure Management
  • Can work under direction in a fast-paced environment on a variety of projects or issues
  • Has an understanding of ITIL practices and understands how they apply to IT Service Management platforms
