Job Summary
Comcast’s Observability Program provides essential platform services that help teams monitor, analyze, and optimize application performance. As an Engineer 2, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of observability platforms such as MetriX, OCP, ADE, Tracing, Grafana, and Elasticsearch.
This role is ideal for early-career engineers who are passionate about building scalable systems and eager to grow their skills in distributed systems, automation, and observability. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams to enhance logging, metrics, tracing, visualization, and alerting capabilities.
Job Description
This team has members in Reston, VA; West Chester, PA; and our downtown Philadelphia offices, and we will equally consider candidates in these locations. This role is not open for remote/virtual hire.

Core Responsibilities
Software Development & Platform Engineering
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and user experience teams to understand new requirements and refine deliverables.
• Contribute to the development of observability platforms using Python and Golang.
• Assist in building and enhancing React-based frontends for dashboards and self-service tools.
• Implement RESTful APIs, backend services, and microservices to support business logic.
• Support infrastructure development using Kubernetes and Docker, and assist with automation using Helm, Terraform, and Ansible.
• Develop backend applications suitable for cloud platforms and resilient web applications that function during backend or connectivity interruptions.
• Create reusable web components and self-contained microservices that can be leveraged across teams.
• Use content management systems and follow global design patterns and coding standards established by the team.
Observability & System Monitoring
• Help implement scalable observability solutions for logging, metrics, and tracing.
• Assist in optimizing Elasticsearch, Prometheus/VictoriaMetrics, and Grafana for performance and reliability.
• Learn and support integration of OpenTelemetry for distributed tracing and RED metrics.
• Contribute to anomaly detection improvements using ADE.
• Create dashboards to track business and operational metrics.
Operational Support & Collaboration
• Participate in production deployments and assist with customer issue triage.
• Support incident response and troubleshooting under guidance from senior engineers.
• Use tools to identify and mitigate production incidents within defined MTTR (Mean Time To Recover) KPIs.
• Collaborate with internal teams to adopt observability best practices and improve operational insights.
• Join an on-call rotation for platform support, including occasional after-hours and weekend coverage.
Security & DevOps
• Develop security features as part of application development and embrace a DevSecOps culture.
• Work closely with architects and DevOps engineers to implement functional and technical requirements.
• Assist in enhancing CI/CD automation to improve deployment efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
Learning & Growth
• Engage in technical discussions and seek mentorship from senior team members.
• Contribute to documentation and internal knowledge-sharing efforts.
• Demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow in observability, software development, and automation.
Required Skills & Experience
• 2–4 years of experience in software engineering or platform development.
• Proficiency in Python and JavaScript (React).
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration.
• Experience developing REST APIs.
• Exposure to Linux environments and shell scripting.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.
• Interest in infrastructure-as-code tools like Helm, Terraform, and Ansible.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred/Nice-to-Have
• Experience with Golang.
• Exposure to Microsoft Graph API.
• Interest in observability systems and tools.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
