Backend Software Engineer

About the role
We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. You will work in a squad of 4–8 engineers alongside a Scrum Master, Product Owner, Business Analyst and Engineering Manager.

The team is split into four domains: Customer, Product, Operations and Logistics. Each squad owns its own services and integrations, building scalable solutions using Golang, event-driven architecture and AWS serverless technologies.

We are happy to train engineers with experience in other strongly typed languages who want to learn Go.

Responsibilities

• Develop features and fix bugs to deliver high-quality software
• Build and maintain APIs, services and integrations using Golang
• Implement event-driven solutions
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines
• Build scalable systems using AWS (Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, DynamoDB)
• Write clean, testable and maintainable code
• Work in an Agile environment
• Maintain existing services with strong monitoring and observability
• Respond to incidents, especially during peak periods

Requirements (Essential)

• Experience in software engineering in a commercial environment
• Experience with Golang OR another strongly typed language
• Experience building or maintaining scalable APIs
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP)
• Experience using Git
• Experience with testing practices (unit testing, contract testing)
• Experience working in Agile teams

Nice to have

• Experience with serverless technologies (AWS Lambda, Cloud Run, Azure Functions)
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with databases (relational and non-relational)
• Understanding of event-driven architecture
• Knowledge of branching strategies
