Job Description
- Design detailed interaction patterns, component behaviours, and interface states for digital products and services
- Produce high-fidelity prototypes to communicate and validate interaction logic with users and developers
- Define and document micro-interactions, error states, validation patterns, and edge cases
- Apply and extend the GOV.UK Design System, contributing reusable patterns where appropriate
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure accurate, accessible implementation of designs
- Ensure all interface designs meet WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards and responsive design requirements
- Work with UX designers and user researchers to refine interactions based on evidence
- Maintain design system consistency and contribute to shared component libraries
- Document interaction specifications clearly to support development handoff
Qualifications
- Expert proficiency in Figma or equivalent design tooling, including component and variant management
- Strong portfolio demonstrating interaction-level design decisions, prototyping, and design system work
- Familiarity with the GOV.UK Design System and experience designing within or alongside established design systems
- Working knowledge of HTML5 and CSS/Sass sufficient to collaborate effectively with front-end engineers
- Familiarity with front-end JavaScript frameworks and component-based development approaches
- Understanding of WCAG 2.2 and practical application within interface design
- Experience using AI tools to accelerate prototyping, pattern generation, or design documentation
- Strong communication skills, with ability to present and justify interaction decisions to technical and non-technical audiences
