- Enforce and monitor engineering standards across markets (architecture, DevOps, security, quality, observability), ensuring consistency of application platform services.
- Accountable for controls and compliance across the engineering lifecycle, including data controls, auditability, and operational resilience.
- Mature advanced data capabilities and promote innovation, driving adoption of cutting-edge specialist technologies and practices (including GenAI, modern data/streaming, and cloud-native patterns).
- Lead and develop engineers, providing technical direction, making key technology decisions, and building strong data engineering capability while ensuring platform resilience.
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
- Strong technical knowledge of data platforms, data architecture and data tooling, with practical understanding of HSBC structure and how technology operates in a global bank.

- Deep knowledge of modern data technologies across Hadoop and public cloud (GCP & AWS) including CDC, Kafka, Spark (streaming & batch), Kinesis, distributed stores (HBase, Hive, Presto) and file systems (S3/HDFS).
- Proven experience designing/building distributed, service-oriented, microservices and cloud-based architectures, including APIs and enterprise integration patterns.
- Broad familiarity with Big Data, Hadoop, Spark, BI, ETL, DB2, Oracle, Java, and cloud including GCP and private cloud.
- Strong DevOps and container capability: Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, SonarQube, and Kubernetes/Docker (incl. GKE).
- Experience working in a banking technology organisation, with in-depth understanding of IT project management, business analysis and service management in regulated environments.
- Demonstrated leadership in a highly matrixed global organisation: senior stakeholder management, excellent written/verbal communication, strong problem-solving, ability to decide under ambiguity/pressure, and an enterprise mindset spanning GCP, AWS, GenAI, data analytics & visualisation, data virtualisation, data entitlement, with a focus on outcomes and balanced risk-based decisions.
