Team – Member Active Engagement - IT

Working Pattern - Hybrid – 2 days per week in the Vitality Bournemouth Office. Full time, 35 hours per week.

What this role is all about:

As a Front End Engineer, you will build software components, primarily in the form of user interfaces. In this role, you will collaborate closely with other disciplines to develop designs and working prototypes based on user and business needs. You will develop software components that form part of a product to meet these needs, write clean, well-tested code that follows web standards, and coach and mentor more junior colleagues. Additionally, you will understand and implement the three fundamental front-end technologies: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as modern front-end frameworks such as React and Astro. Researching alternative technologies to support user journeys and helping define new processes will also be part of your responsibilities.

Accessibility: Build user interfaces that meet predefined standards and champion accessibility to stakeholders.
Communicating information: Collaborate effectively in a group, manage stakeholder expectations, and host or moderate discussions.
Community collaboration: Actively network within the team to foster strong relationships and enhance team dynamics.
Leadership and guidance: Make informed decisions and contribute to best practice guidelines. Coach and mentor more junior colleagues.
Estimating: Estimate effort required for tasks and communicate effectively.
Modern standards approach: Apply and guide others in modern standards.
Programming and build: Build, test, and document user interfaces of medium to high complexity.
Prototyping: Engage in team prototyping activities, establish design patterns, and iterate them.
Strategic thinking: Work within a strategic context and contribute to strategy development.
Systems design: Translate designs into working user interfaces, manage technical complexity for maintainability.

What do you need to thrive?

Tooling: Operate and perform actions confidently within software such as Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket, and Jenkins. Comfortably use design-focused handover tools such as Figma. Use a code editor such as Visual Studio Code to build and optimise software.
User focus: Collaborate effectively with user researchers and interaction designers to represent user needs internally. Champion user research to focus on all users. Prioritise and define approaches to understand the user story, guiding others in doing so.
Performance optimisation: Show an awareness of the principles of web performance and how poor performance can negatively affect user experience. Support activities to improve web performance. Identify and help resolve issues.
Git: Proficiently use Git for version control.
TypeScript: Develop and maintain code using TypeScript for enhanced type safety and maintainability.
Node.js: Understanding and experience with Node.js for development and build tools.
WCAG: Experience with web accessibility and WCAG standards to ensure our codebase and output is compliant.
