Role Purpose :

The Head of R&C (Risk and Compliance) Financial Engineer in India will report in functionally to the Global Head of R&C Financial Engineering and is responsible for:

  • Help with the development of the infrastructure to support Analytics and various business use cases.
  • Help with developing and maintaining the CI/CD (Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment) pipeline for delivering and deploying the team’s artefacts.
  • Help with the design, building and implementation of centralized Analytic libraries and utilities.
  • Help with improving efficiency and reduce the time to develop and deploy new models within R&C.
  • Help with standardizing solutions and processing across the various R&C sub-functions.
  • Manage stakeholders’ expectations and contribute to the end-to-end design and planning.
  • Work closely with Analytics stakeholders, Transformation and IT to create synergies across the different sub-functions and departments.
  • Help define effective operating models within the various sub-functions and with, and IT.
  • Help with the adoption of AI tools and identify opportunities for productivity improvement through Innovation projects and AI use cases.
  • Maintain and manage a highly skilled Financial Engineering team, fully aware of new technology and innovation and delivery focus across R&C sub-functions.

Principal Responsibilities:

Business, Customers and Stakeholders:

  • Work with technical stakeholders and sponsors in designing solutions to financial engineering problems, and then leading the delivery of those solutions to a high standard.
  • Engage, influence, and collaborate with other end-to-end stakeholders including IT, R&C, and Project teams to ensure positive outcomes for projects within the funding envelope.
  • Have a strategic focus which enables HSBC to evolve and adapt in a changing regulatory and market environment.

Leadership & Teamwork:

  • Provide strong strategic thinking and leadership to influence both organisational and technical design.
  • Foster a high-performance culture and a knowledge sharing environment within the financial engineering team.
  • Recruit, train and coach financial engineers of different levels of experience across multiple locations and manage the team in line and/or entity manager capacity.
  • Ensure the strategy and vision is well understood by team members.
  • Engage and enable business stakeholders and sponsors such that they can contribute, influence and support where necessary to remove obstacles.
  • Provide leadership and influence over end-to-end solutions by working closely with other departments that interface with Financial Engineering to deliver effective final solutions to the business and ongoing support.
  • Manage budgets associated with projects being run by the role holder, as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Strong track record of execution in delivering Analytics and Technology solutions in any modern programming language.
  • Strong knowledge of technical architecture concepts for the building and integration of quantitative libraries and more general programming concepts.
  • Knowledge and experience of modern Agile and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment practices in cloud and non-cloud environments.
  • Demonstrable track record in top-tier global bank.
  • Advanced Experience of application and software development.
  • Knowledge of finance, particularly quantitative finance.
  • Good understanding and appreciation of Regulatory requirements and audit requirements.
  • Experience of interacting with internal and external stakeholder groups (Business, Risk, Audit, Compliance, Regulators).
  • Strong Quantitative/Analytical background.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication ability.
  • Strong knowledge of Python programming language.
  • Strong knowledge in object-oriented design, functional programming, software architecture and algorithms.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle/methodologies.
  • Knowledge of SQL, relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning and GenAI fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of REST, gRPC, Apache Beam, Docker and Kubernetes are nice to have.
  • Knowledge of C++.
  • Experienced with Dash or other UI frameworks is nice to have.
  • Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external Regulators.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience of navigating the organization and building strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong experience of undertaking line/entity management responsibilities is required.
