The Vacancy

Here at EMIS we are looking for an innovative and solution driven Senior Network Engineers to join us on a 6-month term, working within our hosted infrastructure team.

 

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established and talented hosted infrastructure team. You will be joining a team who are growing, and therefore that presents real opportunity for you to impart your knowledge as well as develop your expertise.

 

You will be leading on projects involving the design, specification, build and delivery of product network environments to ensure high levels of network and service stability for hosted systems. Our main technology vendors include Cisco, Juniper and HP, Fortinet, Palo Alto, VMWare NSX-T, and we are currently on a transformation journey from on-prem to cloud technologies including AWS and Azure.

Please note that whilst this role is hybrid position, there would be an expectation for you to come into the Leeds office on an as needed basis. There are no on-call requirements for this role. 

 

 

 

What you’ll do

You will be working in a fast-paced role where you will be you will be a technical lead for specific network projects that aims to migrate applications from legacy network and server stacks to a new datacentre environment utilising Software defined networking (VMWare NSX) and Cisco Datacentre network switches (Nexus 9K) you will be the lead network engineer  working on this project ensuring we maintain 100% uptime, communicating with project stakeholders and joining project related calls and ensure all project and network documentation is kept up to date and accurate.

Collaboration is key, you will work with internal and external stakeholders in delivering the new datacentre network. Working closely with the other network team members and network architects to ensure the project is delivered in a timely and efficient manner.  

Other key responsibilities and accountabilities will include;

 

  • Design and evolve existing network solutions in line with our product roadmap
  • Ensure that new network deployments are documented and deployed in a manner consistent with best practices.
  • Support the architecture function in designing the new data centre solution.
  • Monitor, measure and maintain/improve network performance – to provide a good customer experience
  • Attend daily project and team standups and play an active role in discussions ensuring stakeholders and other team members are abreast of developments.

 

Who you’ll be

 

You will be an experienced Senior Network Engineer, who demonstrates great experience and knowledge in working in a complex hosted environment.   You will have had previous exposure to leading on large scale delivery projects both on prem and in cloud.

 

You will be a self-motivated and curious individual who enjoys working with autonomy and has exposure to mentoring colleagues within a networking team.  

 

The ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with your peers and wider stakeholders within the business is key, whilst always having a focus on our customer’s needs.

 

Technical skills we are looking for you to demonstrate include;

  • Expert knowledge of Networks (WAN, LAN and WLAN) particularly Juniper, Cisco and VMWare NSX technology stacks
  • Detailed understanding of Load Balancer technologies
  • Excellent understanding of cloud-based solutions (Azure and AWS) - specifically related to Cloud networking as that is where your efforts will be focused.
  • Experience of deploying/supporting Software Defined Networking – specifically VMware NSX-T, this role will require you to have VMware NSX-T knowledge in abundance and will be essential from day one.
  • Detailed practical understanding of security system such as IPS/IDS, traditional and Next-Gen firewall technologies
  • Expert knowledge of routing protocols, specifically OSPF and BGP.
  • Good understanding of infrastructure as a code and how to automate the provisioning and polices across the network
