Director of Software Engineering - Commerce Payments

As the Director of Software Engineering at JPMorganChase within Consumer and Community Banking, Commerce Payments, you will lead the Tokenization Engineering teams and drive impact across teams, technologies, and projects. Utilize your in-depth knowledge of software, applications, technical processes, and product management to deliver multiple complex projects and initiatives, serving as a primary decision maker and a driver of innovation and solution delivery.

Job Responsibilities

• Engage with business stakeholders to break down complex and ambiguous problems into technical specifications that an engineering team can implement under your guidance.
• Deliver and own end-to-end, cutting-edge, low-latency solutions leveraging the latest technologies and best industry practices.
• Champion engineering practices; improve the effectiveness of engineering teams through coaching, mentoring, and resolution of impediments.
• Partner with the leadership team to drive Non-Functional Requirements, modernization initiatives, and controls.
• Influence peer leaders and senior stakeholders across business, product, and technology teams.
• Lead and participate in regular technical meetings, ensuring architectural decisions align with broader organizational goals and strategy.
• Partner with product and business groups to drive participation, plans, timelines, dependencies, and solutions for successful delivery and desired outcomes.
• Work with fellow  Engineering and product leaders to distill overall integration strategy and requirements, ensuring technology solutions for all applications, systems, and processes.
• Drive the adoption of AWS cloud technologies, enablement tools, and processes for our engineering teams as part of integration.
• Create and maintain detailed technology roadmaps with corresponding work streams and stakeholders, ensuring all solutions and requirements are clearly understood and communicated.
• Carry governance accountability for coding decisions, control obligations, and measures of success such as cost of ownership, maintainability, and portfolio operations.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years of applied experience.
• 5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate, and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise.
• Extensive hands-on experience designing and building full stack cloud-native distributed systems with high availability, fault-tolerance, and scalability using Java Spring.
• Experience handling large volumes of data with databases like PostgreSQL and Oracle.
• Curious and comfortable exploring new domains, considering both technology and product perspectives.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing direction and to learn and establish patterns rapidly.
• Understanding and experience with cloud technologies, software engineering/product engineering methods, and technology best practices.
• Demonstrated experience influencing across highly matrixed, complex organizations and delivering value at scale.
• Experience managing competing requirements to align product prioritization with technical capacity and feasibility, balancing long-term technical roadmap with short-term execution needs.
• Ability to understand and convey programming models, technologies, systems, and APIs relevant for stakeholders.
• Regularly work with product teams to ensure understanding and alignment of requirements and technical solutions.
