Job Description:

Your Skills to Drive Success

At Leonardo, we solve real-world engineering challenges, designing and developing mission-critical solutions that power some of the world’s most advanced defence and security systems.

Radar systems for fighter jets like the Typhoon and SAAB Gripen require Systems Engineers to plan and deliver Radar Trials & Analysis activity in support of product development.

The Captor-E Mk0 Radar is produced for the Eurofighter Typhoon and currently in operation with multiple export customers. The project is progressing at pace through continuous systems and software design upgrades, to enable the product to continue to meet the needs of end-users who operate in challenging environments.

There is a need for Systems Engineers to work on Radar Trials Analysis (for Ground Rig and Flight Trials) within the Mk0 Systems Engineering Team. A primary element of the role is to support planning of radar trials, analysis and characterisation of trials data, and the development of design solutions to address system problem reports and capability gaps. Alongside this the successful applicant will also be expected to take on a broad involvement in all aspects of radar operation and processing, as well as to support other Systems Engineering activities within the Captor-E Mk0 team.

There will be the opportunity to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including hardware and software teams, test teams, international partner organisations as well as customer stakeholders.

Successful applicants will have previous experience within a similar industry and some level of experience supporting engineering tests / trials and processing large datasets.

What you’ll do

Data Processing & Analysis

  • Work with large datasets from ground rig and flight trials. Use analytical techniques to evaluate radar performance against requirements and raise problem reports for detailed investigation.
  • Apply signal processing, image processing, and object classification techniques to extract actionable insights.

Design, Integration, Testing & Validation

  • Investigate system anomalies using real trial data, ensuring performance meets specifications.
  • Develop design solutions to system problem reports and capability gaps.
  • Contribute to System Verification and Validation (V&V) activities as part of the continuous development / enhancement of the Radar System.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work alongside multidisciplinary teams to develop and prototype cutting-edge defence solutions.
  • Depending on experience, lead technical initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and influence engineering roadmaps.

What you’ll bring

  • Competent / experienced in use of MATLAB, particularly for use in analysis of large data sets.
  • Full V-model lifecycle experience, with an emphasis on the middle-to-right-side (Implementation, Integration, Testing and V&V).
  • A science-based Honours degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Excellent communication skills with an aptitude for cross-discipline collaboration.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Willingness to travel & support ground rig & flight trials.

What else would help:

  • Understanding of radar or complex sensor systems.
  • Proven experience leading systems engineering projects.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage competing priorities effectively.
