We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Director, Engineering Group Leader to join our GLOBAL PAYMENTS & TRADE team. This role is located in Pune.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways: 

Core Responsibilities (Leadership, Delivery, Architecture)

  • Own end-to-end delivery for Java/Spring portfolios, ensuring reliability, scalability, security, and regulatory/enterprise compliance.
  • Define and drive the architecture roadmap (domain boundaries, microservices, eventing, APIs, data), balancing modernization with legacy interoperability.
  • Lead AI integration strategy (inference services, RAG pipelines, vector search, guardrails) with observability, auditability, and performance at scale.
  • Govern solution design reviews, threat modeling, performance benchmarks, production readiness; own go/no-go decisions and operational excellence metrics.

Local Talent & People Management (Pune site leadership)

  • Lead and grow high-performing teams; attract, hire, onboard; build succession pipelines; foster diversity and inclusion.
  • Mentor and coach managers, tech leads, and senior engineers; set expectations and career paths aligned to capability maturity.
  • Drive performance management and upskilling in Java, AI integration, data engineering, and platform reliability.
  • Cultivate ownership, accountability, safe experimentation, and outcome-orientation; recognize and reward impact.

Technical Skills & Experience (Required)

  • Java ecosystem expert: Spring Boot/Cloud, microservices, reactive programming, API design (REST/GraphQL), concurrency, JVM performance tuning.
  • AI integration: model endpoints (REST/gRPC), embeddings/vector stores, RAG, guardrails, latency/token budgeting, MLOps collaboration.
  • RDBMS expertise: schema/index design, query optimization, transactions/locking, partitioning; PostgreSQL/Oracle/SQL Server; data modeling/governance.
  • Middleware and cloud-native delivery: API gateways, OAuth2/OIDC, mTLS/TLS, Kafka, async patterns, containers (Docker), Kubernetes, secrets/config, observability.

Engineering Excellence & Controls

  • DevSecOps leadership: CI/CD (Maven/Gradle), test automation (unit/integration/contract/performance), SAST/DAST, dependency management, SBOM, patching.
  • Observability/SRE: OpenTelemetry/Prometheus/Grafana, alert design, runbooks, incident response, capacity planning, performance benchmarking.
  • Security and compliance: secure coding, encryption at rest/in transit, key management, data classification, access controls, audit readiness.
  • Data practices: lineage, cataloging, retention, responsible data use in AI-enabled workflows.

Leadership & Behavioral Competencies

  • Strategic thinking: translate business objectives into actionable architecture/roadmaps and measurable engineering outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication: executive updates, risk articulation, and decision-making with clear trade-offs.
  • Proven leadership of multi-squad execution, prioritization, and portfolio governance; comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities.
  • Talent magnet and culture builder; invests in mentorship, feedback, continuous learning; bias for action and cross-team collaboration.
  • 12–18+ years in software engineering with 5+ years leading managers/tech leads across multiple squads.
  • Proven delivery of complex, high-availability Java platforms in regulated enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on architecture leadership integrating AI services for data-intensive, low-latency systems; Bachelor’s/Master’s in CS/Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with vector databases, feature stores, or model serving platforms.
  • Background in financial services or other regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with enterprise API management, secrets vaulting, and policy-as-code; exposure to multi-region HA/DR and performance engineering.
  • Reliability: SLO attainment, incident rates, MTTR/MTTD.
  • Delivery & Quality: lead time, deployment frequency, change failure rate; test coverage, defect density, vulnerability closure times.
  • Efficiency & People: cost-to-serve, capacity utilization, throughput/latency; engagement scores, retention of high performers, internal mobility/upskilling.
