• interactive investor, the UK’s second largest direct-to-consumer investment platform, enables individuals in the UK to plan, save and invest in the way that works for them.
• Our Adviser business provides financial planning solutions and technology for UK financial advisers, enabling them to create value for their customers.
• Our Investments business is a specialist asset manager that focuses on areas where we have both strength and scale to capitalise on the key themes shaping the market, through either public markets or alternative asset classes.

About the Role

As an Engineer – Business-Aligned Applications, you will be a member of the Development Chapter within the Asset Management Tribe, reporting to the Development Chapter Lead and working as part of a cross-functional team. This role is uniquely positioned at the intersection of technology and business, supporting rapid solution delivery for investment professionals, analysts, and operational teams.

You will work with business stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver pragmatic, high-impact solutions in a fast-paced, Agile environment. This is a hands-on role that blends software engineering with analytical thinking and problem-solving. You will be expected to work across a diverse technology stack - including Python, APIs, Power BI, and low-code tools - to build and iterate on solutions that drive real business outcomes.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, thrives on collaboration, and is comfortable switching between development, analysis, and stakeholder engagement. You will be empowered to take ownership of problems, propose creative solutions, and deliver working software quickly and iteratively.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain business-aligned applications and services that support investment operations, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Build and support data integration and transformation pipelines using tools such as Azure Data Factory, SQL, and Power Platform.
• Collaborate directly with business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver rapid, fit-for-purpose solutions in an Agile environment.
• Develop lightweight applications, scripts, and dashboards using Python, Power BI, and other low-code/no-code tools to support operational and analytical needs.
• Design and implement API integrations and data workflows to enable seamless connectivity across systems.
• Support data analysis and reporting initiatives by building queries, visualisations, and automation pipelines.
• Work across a broad and evolving technology stack, adapting quickly to new tools and platforms as needed.
• Apply engineering best practices, including test automation, CI/CD pipelines, and secure coding standards.
• Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and collaborative problem-solving.
• Explore and apply AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot) to improve engineering efficiency and solution quality.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous delivery and iterative improvement of our platforms.
• Ensure solutions are well-documented, observable, and production-ready, with appropriate logging and monitoring in place.
• Drive continuous improvement in development tools, processes, and team ways of working.

About the candidate

We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, Agile environment, is self-motivated, and enjoys working closely with business stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions. You should be comfortable working across a broad technology stack, balancing hands-on development with analytical thinking, and adapting quickly to changing priorities.

You will be expected to quickly understand complex business requirements - even when working to tight deadlines - and translate them into practical, scalable solutions. The ideal candidate will be able to balance short-term tactical delivery with a long-term strategic mindset, ensuring solutions are both effective and sustainable.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as you will frequently liaise with internal and external data providers to ensure accurate and complete data flows into our investment models and reporting platforms.

Prior experience in asset management or financial services is highly valued, as you will be working on systems that directly support investment professionals and operational teams across the business.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Experience in Asset Management or Finance Technology
• Problem solving ability

·       Flexibility across technologies and drive to learn about the business and future technology

• Strong understanding of DevOps tooling and code deployment
• Solid foundation in SQL and T-SQL
• Proven software development experience with a focus on delivering business-aligned solutions
• An innovative approach to solutions and technology

Other Desirable Skills & Experience

• Experience in Power Platform, including Power BI and Power Automate

• Familiarity with Azure DevOps (or equivalent), CI/CD pipelines, and Agile delivery
• Experience with Python, C# (or equivalent) and batch processing
• Exposure to test automation, unit testing frameworks, and SSRS
• Knowledge of Azure Databricks and Microsoft Fabric
• Experience with Azure Function Apps

Optional Additional Skills

• Familiarity with PowerShell, VBA, or low-code automation
• Experience with Azure Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines, or Snowflake
• Understanding of API development, REST, XML, and XSLT
• Exposure to UX design, Copilot or equivalent AI tools, and observability tooling
• Awareness of data governance, ETL development, and data lake architectures
