Job Title: Obsolescence Management Lead Engineer

Location: Warton. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: £54,793 - £60,326 depending on experience

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Working as part of a small team and individually, ensuring proactive management and resolution of emerging obsolescence for all training devices both in-service, in development and in support of future business opportunities
  • Establish and maintain a strong technical understanding of the current status and suppliers for our training devices
  • Monitor, and provide challenge/solution proposals for hardware obsolescence with intent of minimising the impact onto the BAES engineering teams 
  • Work with the computing and software teams to understand the status of all software components within the device architectures.
  • Produce monthly software obsolescence forecasting
  • Work with engineering teams to produce demonstrations studies for removal of obsolete/unsupported products in order to maintain security accreditation
  • Analyse assessment results, any new or emerging residual risks and provide remedial recommendations to the wider engineering teams
  • Agree to and work to timescales, clearly understanding and providing regular feedback of progress and achievement
  • Ensure that a good working knowledge of Aircrew Training Simulation Systems related product deliverables is maintained and that an awareness of interface points and dependencies within the wider team is established
  • Understand and comply with BAE Systems Warton policies on security

 

Your skills and experiences:

  • A degree in a STEM subject or equivalent relevant experience. This may include professional qualifications in related toolsets
  • Experience with management of obsolescence across hardware and software solutions
  • The ability to articulate information at different levels of detail for different audiences is highly desirable

The Synthetic Training team:

The Synthetic Training (ST) Team are a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the specification, development, integration, test and in-service support of Typhoon Training Simulators. ST products are engineered through the integration of Hardware, Software and Computing Sub-systems, comprising of both Aircraft and Commercially available solutions, equipment and applications.  Customers include both UK and Export Air Forces, with training devices deployed at Customer Operating Bases across the UK and Overseas
