JOB DESCRIPTION

You’re ready to gain the skills and experience needed to grow within your role and advance your career — and we have the perfect software engineering opportunity for you.

As a Software Engineer II at JPMorganChase within the  Consumer and Community Banking, you will work alongside senior managers, engineers, and finance partners to help optimize cloud spend, build and enhance FinOps tooling, and deliver actionable cost insights across the organization. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional who is passionate about the intersection of cloud technology, financial operations, and product development, and who is eager to grow into a strategic product leadership role.

Job responsibilities

  • Support the execution of the enterprise FinOps strategy by assisting with cloud cost tracking, tagging compliance, and resource utilization analysis across AWS and on-premises environments.
  • Conduct regular cloud spend reviews to identify trends, anomalies, and optimization opportunities such as idle resources, rightsizing candidates, and underutilized reserved instances or savings plans.
  • Assist in maintaining showback and chargeback models and preparing cloud cost forecasts and budget variance analyses in collaboration with finance and engineering teams, ensuring data accuracy and timely delivery of insights.
  • Assist in managing the backlog for the Service Delivery team, encompassing Cloud Infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, dashboards, and automation tools, helping to define user stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritization based on business value and stakeholder feedback.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams during sprint planning, refinement, and delivery cycles to ensure features are built to application team requirements and delivered on schedule.
  • Gather and document requirements from stakeholders across engineering, finance, and infrastructure teams, translating business needs into clear and actionable product specifications.
  • Support the adoption of FinOps tools and practices by creating user guides, training materials, and FAQs to help teams understand and manage their cloud consumption.
  • Leverage data analytics to identify cost anomalies and recommend corrective actions, escalating significant findings to senior team members for review and resolution.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including engineering, finance, and DevOps to support cloud financial governance and optimization initiatives, actively participating in FinOps community forums, working groups, and governance meetings.
  • Stay current with cloud pricing changes, FinOps best practices, and emerging tools and technologies, seeking mentorship and feedback from senior managers and technical leads to accelerate professional growth and deepen expertise in FinOps and product management.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 2+ years applied experience

  •  Experience in cloud operations, financial analysis, technology delivery, or a related technical or analytical role.
  • Foundational understanding of cloud computing concepts and at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including basic knowledge of compute, storage, and networking services.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, or Tableau.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working in Agile environments with familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar project management platforms.
  • A proactive, curious mindset with a willingness to learn and take ownership of tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • FinOps Certified Practitioner certification from the FinOps Foundation.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud cost management tools such as AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, CloudHealth, or Cloudability.
  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code concepts (Terraform, CloudFormation) and a basic understanding of how architectural decisions influence cloud costs.
  • Familiarity with scripting or programming languages such as Python or SQL for data extraction and analysis.
  • Project experience in product management, cloud engineering, or financial operations.
