Software Engineer III - Mainframe Developer

As a Software Engineer III - Mainframe Developer at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial & Investment Bank - Broker Dealer Platform team, you'll serve as a seasoned member of an agile team to design and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You are responsible for carrying out critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

Job responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of mainframe solutions that support business objectives and operational needs.
• Collaborate with business users to gather requirements, understand business processes, and translate them into technical solutions.
• Provide advanced support for mainframe applications, proactively identifying areas for improvement and implementing enhancements.
• Oversee the integration of mainframe data with big data platforms, ensuring data quality, consistency, and alignment with business requirements.
• Lead the resolution of complex incidents and problems, performing root cause analysis and driving long-term solutions.
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce operational risk.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for processes, solutions, and business logic. 
• Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, hands-on experience in usage of AI in everyday work.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 3+ years applied experience
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Experience in mainframe technologies (COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, VSAM, MQ, etc.).
• Strong business acumen and experience working closely with business stakeholders.
• Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of usage of AI tools (Github Co-pilot, IBM Watson X or equivalent tools) in the software development life cycle.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Experience with data integration between mainframe and distributed platforms is a plus.
• Good understanding of Post Trade business (Trade Processing, Settlements/Bookkeeping/ Statements/ Product & Pricing and Accounting concepts)
• Exposure to distributed and cloud technologies
