Mercor is recruiting **Telephone Operators!** You will be working on a research project **for one of the world’s top AI companies** as an independent contractor. You will be using your experience and deep domain knowledge to design questions and help train AI models related to your expertise as a Telephone Operator. **Applicants must:** - Have **4+ years full-time work experience** as a Telephone Operator - **Be based in the US, UK, or Canada** (No other countries will be considered) - Possess **strong writing skills** and be comfortable **working with various computer applications and platforms** **Essential Skills and Tasks** We will only consider Telephone Operator experience that includes the following tasks: · Observe signal lights on switchboards, and dial or press buttons to make connections. · Operate telephone switchboards and systems to advance and complete connections, including those for local, long distance, mobile, person-to-person, and emergency calls. · Update directory information. · Perform clerical duties such as typing, proofreading, and sorting mail. · Offer special assistance to persons such as those who are unable to dial or who are in emergency situations. · Monitor automated systems for placing collect calls and intervene for callers needing assistance. · Provide assistance for customers with special billing requests. · Provide relay service for users who are deaf or hard of hearing. · Keep records of calls placed and received, and of related toll charges. · Promote company products, services, and savings plans when appropriate. **Comparable job titles for this role**: 411 Directory Assistance Operator; Directory Assistance Operator; Information Specialist; Live Source Operator; Long Distance Operator; PBX Operator; TELECOM Op (Telecommunications Operator); Toll Operator Here are more details about the role: - We aim to make **the hourly compensation rate offered to you competitive based on your professional background and geographic location** (please note that the listed hourly compensation scale is for U.S.-based applicants and that that scale will differ depending on where a candidate is geographically based) - This project requires that you be able to commit a **minimum of 15 hours per week** - The work **will last for approximately 3-4 weeks after you begin the project** - Please note you will need access to a desktop or laptop computer for this project and that we **cannot accept applicants who use chromebook computers**
