Product Consultant

The Product Consultant provides support during client engagements and clear guidance on the effective use of VSBS Product and Solutions.  It will require the need to partner with clients to understand and document requirements, bring clarity to the solution view, whilst leveraging understanding of product-specific processes, constraints, and strategic direction. Additionally, the Product Consultant will input experience obtained from client engagements to VSBS strategic planning, to help understand, maintain, and expand our solution business process flows and enhance the overall VSBS offering.

The Product Consultant will be associated with Underwriting, however, there will be a focus on delivering successful adoption by the client of the complete VSBS products they have purchased so a general understanding of other VSBS products will be required. This role will lead on client implementations and engagements, as well as proactively reviewing client’s application usage and business process in BAU to ensure they are achieving optimum business benefit from the VSBS solution.

The role will be varied and challenging, focusing on the most complex engagements, including new client discovery and implementations, User Acceptance Testing, consultancy, and business configuration.

The role is actively involved in specific client engagements and contributes to a broad spectrum of analysis deliverables which contributes towards the strategic goals of the Solution Group as a whole:

• Leading the analysis of client business processes, functions, and procedures to determine the most effective solutions to meet the needs of the client.
• Create, maintain, and continually evaluate the client’s business process against the VSBS solutions and how they can be utilised to support their processes and key challenges
• Creates documentation including requirements, acceptance criteria, feature description, and process flows.
• Leading business process design and requirements gathering meetings.
• Support the implementation of business configuration changes using existing processes and tools
• Providing support to analysts within the Solution Group in building a joint understanding of the requirements across the other stakeholders and support them in establishing user stories and acceptance criteria based on business requirements.
• Assisting during the execution of user acceptance testing.
• Liaising with Product, Programme, Project, and Account Management around planning, escalations, and problem resolution.
• Support and mentor colleagues within the business.
• Deliver internal and external training.

Stakeholder management skills

• Able to influence, lead and deliver business analysis of client implementations
• Earn the trust and influence positive engagement from clients
• Create productive relationships across the VSBS teams - leveraging their client insight.
• The ability to constructively say ‘no’ to clients to maintain their focus on the successful delivery against the business requirements and in line with VSBS strategy.

Commercial awareness to achieve client requirements within the agreed timelines whilst balancing the client-first experience

• Guide client requirements and expectations within agreed timelines and VSBS strategy
• Identify and highlight scope deviation and support the appropriate change control process.

Process leadership and optimisation

• Lead the way in following VSBS analysis processes, whilst identifying and building the case for ongoing improvements.

Team engagement

• Be a role model in terms of engagement, bringing together the right stakeholders and assets at the right time to maximum effect, benefitting both VSBS and our clients.
• Work with the Solution Groups to provide input from client implementation experiences to influence and support strategic direction aligned with the needs of our clients.
• Support in pre-sales engagement where required.
• Potential line management of other Product Consultants, including setting objectives and supporting training plans.

Any other duties commensurate to the grade of the role.

This role is optimally suited to a candidate who has a deep understanding of VSBS and its products, with a passion for the customer experience.  Alternatively, diverse and in-depth market knowledge, with similar programme/solution analysis experience gained in vendor/consultancy organisations.

Skills and knowledge required: 

• 8+ years’ experience in Insurance, specifically the London Market, either at a carrier, vendor or consultancy. 
• Experience working within the London Market, particularly within Underwriting or with a Policy Admin System (PAS), is required. Candidates who have worked as Underwriters or held senior roles in Underwriting Operations within London Market carriers, and who are seeking to transition into the Insurtech space, would be well-suited for this opportunity. 
• Business analysis skills and a strong interest in technology and its application to business and operational challenges
• Passionate about identifying and delivering process improvements, both internally and in client-facing environments.
• Familiarity with Verisk Specialty Business Insurance products and platforms is a significant advantage but not required. 
• Proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders, with confidence in presenting ideas and driving change at leadership level.
• Experience managing multiple projects and coordinating across cross-functional teams in a large matrix organization.
• Ability to conduct technical discussions directly with clients and internal project/product management.
• Excellent team collaboration skills and a proactive approach to shared goals.
• Strong relationship-building capabilities, fostering a climate conducive to positive working relationships with both internal and external clients.
• Basic knowledge of SQL—ability to perform simple queries and support data analysis; considered a desirable skill.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, with strong skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
