Sustainable Management of Natural Resources (SMNR) is at the core of NRW’s purpose, and everyone here plays a part in ensuring resilient ecosystems and supporting wellbeing across Wales. This role sits within the Forest Regulation and Tree Health Team, a Wales Wide team, divided into patches. This post will have responsibility for the South East Wales Patch which covers a diverse area including the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, Black Mountains and The Wye Valley.

Provide technical specialist forestry advice to the Forestry Permitting Team in relation to applications for felling permissions and also their associated restocking conditions according to the Woodlands for Wales Strategy and the UK Forestry Standard.

Undertake compliance assessment and effective regulation of Felling Licences in accordance with the Forestry Act, Environment Act (Wales) and other relevant legislation.

Provide technical advice and recommendations in relation to applications made under the Environmental Impact Assessment (Forestry) (England and Wales) regulations so that proposals for Afforestation, Deforestation, Forest Roads and Forest Quarries.

Investigate and deliver effective Enforcement where offences under the Forestry Act and Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations occur.

Deliver a wider work programme with due consideration to the Sustainable Management of our Natural Resources in all decision making.

As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

This role is based in flexibly in one of our South East Wales Offices and will support the delivery of a planned programme of work across South East Wales. As part of our Forest Regulation and Tree Health Team, you’ll work alongside colleagues specialising in forest regulation and Tree Health. Together, you will help achieve outcomes that contribute directly to NRW’s corporate plan and our wider environmental ambitions.
