Why this Job Matters?

The RAN network has grown increasingly complex over recent years. We now have 4 technology layers, 8 possible carriers, with more due this year. This is all split over three main macro vendors each of which can be installed in hundreds on combinations.

The role holder will be responsible for delivering the E2E technical solutions deployed within the RAN, this includes complete Radio Network Design (All technologies) and ensuring that the produced design meets the quality within the agreed time frame to keep EE number 1. The role will cover hardware, software and radio feature design and introduction across Macro, Micro and Small cells. Ensure the work is delivered with the high standard in the challenging timeframe.

Specific Job Requirements

Work with Design Manager and Technology leads to deliver and deploy the designs as per the agreed network strategy within the software cycles.  Co-ordinate with vendors and test partners to meet the business needs.  

 

What I'll be doing – your accountabilities?

·  Creates and implements technical solutions (Hardware NPI and Features) for a domain or cross domains / portfolios of work within a specific technology area autonomously, understanding how solutions impact systems internally and/or externally and assessing impact of change.

·        Create Documentation at a high standard. Documentation requirements are HLD, LLD and planners pack.

·  Provides technical quality assurance over work of other engineers through matrix team structure.

·  Provides sound technical expertise to consult on significant component(s) of a technical solution within a specific domain or cross domain.

·  Identifies opportunities to improve standards of practice within a project, continuously enhancing ways of working.

·  Delivers resolutions to problems that tend to be complex, cross-domain or of high impact to customers.

  • Work both within the team and across the department to ensure deliveries are on time, and to a high level of quality
  • Work in conjunction with internal Design/Deployment/Operations and our external customers and suppliers to ensure appropriate End to End solutions are delivered to ensure RAN Design & Customer experience KPI Targets are maintained/exceeded
  • Support the field trials of new products, software releases and features prior to wider deployments.
  • Liaise with wider teams to develop design scopes & requirements
  • Develop, review & comment on low level designs from vendors.
  • Analyse and inform technical projects, ensuring planned deliveries are achievable, they call on the most appropriate technical options available and are effectively managing risks and issues.
  • Deliver process optimisation that brings benefits to both our customers and to BT.
  • Ensuring the EE network remains the number one performing network in the UK
  • Driving the vendor to meet BT’s targets.

Capabilities required for the job

·  Technology design - You partner with the business to understand and analyse user requirements and inform the architecture design for software, systems and networks.

  • Technical expertise in mobile telecommunications industry.
  • Experience of working in GERAN, LTE & 5G design.
  • Knowledge and hands on 4G & 5G (NSA & SA) design experience.
  • Understanding of lab testing and field trials processes
  • Maintain high level of domain expertise, keeping abreast of the developments within the telecoms market, to ensure continued delivery to time, cost and quality in the face of both internal and external change
  • Good understanding of Ericsson RAN equipment beneficial.

  • Experience in Mobile Radio Access Network Design, planning or delivery
  • Evidence of optimising existing long-standing processes and ways of working
  • Able to analyse in depth, drive test logs, Wireshark traces and protocol analysers traces for 2G,4G & 5G networks

·        Familiarity with test software & devices (Accuver).
