About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead strategic initiatives across the LUMI Big Data Platform, focusing on data engineering, GCP migration, and AI enablement. This role requires a blend of technical depth, program leadership, and agile delivery excellence to guide cross-functional teams in building scalable, secure, and high-performing data solutions for Amex.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Program Ownership: Drive end-to-end execution of LUMI programs, including cloud migration (GCP), Big Data modernization, and AI/ML enablement across business units.
  • Agile Delivery Leadership: Manage multiple Scrum and Kanban teams, ensuring effective sprint planning, backlog management, and delivery of high-quality data platform capabilities.
  • Cloud Transformation: Partner with engineering, architecture, and data science teams to design and implement data pipelines, AI/ML workloads, and analytics capabilities leveraging GCP services such as Big Query, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Composer, and Vertex AI.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Collaborate closely with technology and product leaders to define strategic roadmaps, delivery milestones, and measurable outcomes aligned to LUMI’s vision.
  • Technical Program Governance: Establish clear delivery metrics, OKRs, and reporting mechanisms for visibility, risk management, and continuous improvement.
  • Process Optimization: Champion agile best practices, automation, and DevOps principles to accelerate development cycles and improve release velocity.
  • Team Development: Mentor senior engineers, foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and technical excellence.
  • Compliance & Security: Ensure all data solutions adhere to Amex’s security, privacy, and compliance standards.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • 15+ years of total experience, including 8+ years in technical program management delivering enterprise-scale data or cloud programs.
  • Proven track record in managing Big Data, AI/ML, or cloud transformation initiatives in complex environments.
  • Strong hands-on understanding of GCP data and AI services — Big Query, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Composer, DataProc, etc.
  • Deep familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and tools (Jira, Confluence).
  • Background in data engineering, ETL/ELT pipelines, data governance, and performance optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and communicate effectively across technical and executive levels.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Certifications: PMP, CSM, SAFe Agilist, or Google Cloud Certified – Professional Cloud Architect/Engineer.
  • Experience with Big Data technologies (Dataflow, Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, Airflow).
  • Exposure to MLOps and AI-driven data products.
  • Previous experience in financial services or large-scale data platform engineering.
