About IT Services

IT Services at the University of Manchester is a vibrant and fast-moving department, we focus on delivering excellent customer service and quality services for our staff, students and researchers.

The Team

Integration team is responsible for the application development and application maintenance of our core integration technologies primary being Boomi, as well as legacy Oracle Integrations, Microsoft SSIS and SoftwareAG WebMethods. The integration team is responsible for over 800 integration jobs maintaining data links between our core, internal and external systems. Implementation of solid, reliable integration is key to the success of IT projects at the University.

The Role

An opening has arisen for experienced Integration Engineer to join the Integration Delivery Team in IT Services.

The role involves working with business users and IT colleagues to assist integration delivery in projects, define integration requirements, implement solutions based upon our core integration technologies. Primarily, this will be within Boomi. A detailed understanding of a broad range of integration approaches and technologies is essential for the role.

Our team supports a large number of point to point, batch and real-time interfaces driven from our Boomi Integration Platform as well as our legacy webMethods, SSIS, and Oracle technologies. These include connecting our systems via API, REST and file-based integrations. Migration off our legacy platforms into Boomi. You will be a member of the established “Centre of Excellence” – applying architectural principles, systems, process flow, governance and BAU service design standards.

Integration is core to most projects IT Services undertake at the university, and assignment to a range of ongoing projects will form a part of the role. The work will also include providing day-to-day support and development to our existing suite of integrations in BAU space.

The Person
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience with build, configure, and maintain integration processes using the Dell Boomi AtomSphere platform (Integration, B2B/EDI, API management, Master Data Hub, Event Streams).
  • Proficiency with REST/SOAP, EDI, OAuth2, JWT, API gateway concepts, GraphQL.
  • Good grasp of languages like Java, JavaScript, Groovy; experience with application servers and SQL/NoSQL
  • Create/manage REST/SOAP APIs, orchestrate workflows, and handle orchestration via cloud/on-prem systems.
  • Experience gathering requirements and producing design / build documentation in the integration space.
  • Experience providing day to day support of complex integrations across multiple technologies.
  • Implement validation, normalization, and data mapping routines across formats like XML, JSON, and flat files; author custom logic
  • An understanding of a broad range of integration approaches and technologies is essential for the role.
  • Experience using source control, e.g. GitLab/Bitbucket/Git.
  • Experience with swagger or other rest definition tools
  • Experience of calling and testing APIs using tools such as Postman API or SOAP UI

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience using Azure DevOps pipeline.
  • Experience using JIRA and Confluence.
  • Boomi certification(s), Agile/Scrum experience, AI/LLM integration knowledge
