This role is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in the Data Transformation of the Energy Industry within SPEN’s newly established Network Data and Intelligence function. This role is essential in recognising the important role which Data plays in the Energy sector, and will work with our Engineering, Planning, Financial, and Customer Service departments to support them in the management, exploitation and improvement of their data.
You will lead a team of Data Governance analysts to develop and implement our framework for Data Governance. This includes leading the deployment of our Data Governance tool and working with leads from across our organisation to identify, catalogue and improve access to data. This will also include working closely with our Data architecture team to ensure that the system infrastructure is in place to support business needs. Additionally, you will use our Data Governance tool to assess our data quality and lead on the development of improvement programmes to improve the quality, and ready our data for the deployment of AI opportunities, ensuring a solid foundation of high-quality data and supporting the accurate use of AI.
You will be working closely with leads across all levels of the wider organisation, to identify, catalogue, and interrogate our data assets, establishing acceptable data quality standards, and driving continuous improvement across the organisation. This will include the development of a suite of Executive insights which enable us to understand the quality of, and range of, data which we use as an organisation.
Furthermore, you will lead the development of Data Governance policies and procedures, working with a diverse range of Subject Matter Experts. This will enable SP Energy Networks to operate in a data-driven environment, treating data as an asset and ensuring security, interoperability, and accountability.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead and manage a team to ensure SPEN data governance requirements are developed, established, communicated, enabled and achieved.
- Work with our Business leads across the organisation to lead on the deployment of our Data Governance tool - identifying and cataloguing the data and information which our business relies on for decision making and business operations.
- Develop an understanding of the data across our organisation and lead on the development of quality standards which can be applied to our datasets and used to improve our engineering, network, planning, financial and customer datasets.
- Lead on the development of metrics to measure the quality and complexity of the data we use, providing insight and information that can be shared with our Leadership group.
- Lead on the identification and investigation of data quality issues, leading the development of required improvement plans.
- Manage the SPEN Data Governance Forum, with defined authority and business representation, and clear accountabilities and decision-making authority for all matters on Data Governance.
- Lead the development, and establishment, of Data Governance policies, processes and compliance expectations; Data Best practice alignment and compliance; reporting on compliance with data governance policies and processes.
- Embed a culture of industry leading best-practice with regards to managing, analysis and sharing data - proactively identify opportunities to drive business value.
- Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders and establish effective working relationships with SPEN and management teams in all parts of the business
- Attend Industry Working Groups on Data Governance, ensuring that industry development is in line with SPEN ambition and strategic direction.
What you'll bring
- Proven experience in data governance, data management, data quality or similar role.
- Strong understanding of Data Governance principles and best practices, with prior experience of developing a data catalogue highly desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and time management skills, with the ability to articulate objectives and delivering projects with multiple milestones.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including consultation with others in the business lines, resolving differences and presenting a common perspective.
- Proven experience in leading a team.
- Proficiency in preparing analysis, reports and presentations for senior management.
- Ability to approach problems systematically and objectively, to analyse facts and evaluate options, draw sound conclusions.
- Effective at managing change in a complex environment and creating a culture of engagement, positivity, agile delivery and focussed on outputs.
- Experience in data governance tools, in particular Informatica IDMC, or the ability to quickly develop functional skills with data catalogue products.
- Continual drive to seek innovative ways to make improvements based on current industry trends and best practice.
- Ability to prioritise and manage diverse and demanding workload.
