Software Engineer (Java) - Risk & P&L Technology (Equities Trading)

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join a leading global investment bank, working on a high-performance Risk & P&L calculation platform for the Equities Trading division. This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, Agile environment, collaborating with traders, quants, and risk teams to enhance risk reporting and develop cutting-edge trading technology.

As part of a specialist engineering team, you will focus on server-side Java development, optimising risk analytics, integrating new financial instruments, and maintaining a scalable, real-time risk system.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and enhance server-side Java applications supporting risk and trading analytics.
• Improve risk reporting and onboard new security types into the platform.
• Work closely with quants, traders, and technology teams to optimize system performance.
• Utilise Agile development methodologies, Git-based workflows, and automated testing frameworks.
• Debug, refactor, and optimize complex distributed systems for scalability and efficiency.

Skills & Experience:

• 0-3 years of experience in Java development (finance experience is a plus but not essential).
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design, multi-threading, and distributed architectures.
• Knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• Experience working with Linux environments (scripting and system support is a plus).
• Ability to work with large, complex codebases and write high-quality, production-ready code.
• Passion for financial markets and trading technology.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in a global team environment.
