Verisk’s Extreme Event Solutions Research Department in Boston is seeking a collaborative and experienced atmospheric scientist with strong programming expertise to accelerate the development of next-generation catastrophe models. You’ll work alongside a diverse team of atmospheric scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and computational scientists dedicated to advancing risk modeling for the insurance and reinsurance industries.

Responsibilities

About the Role:

Verisk is at the forefront of atmospheric perils modeling, leveraging cutting-edge Machine Learning techniques trained on reanalysis products, global circulation models, and convection-resolving numerical weather prediction models. Our models represent the full range of possible loss-causing damage scenarios consistent with near-present climate conditions.

As part of our team, you will:

  • Lead coordination and productization of model development across our Boston and Hyderabad offices.
  • Support hiring, mentorship, and growth of the Hyderabad Meteorology Team, fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment.
  • Contribute to pioneering research, advancing how tropical cyclones and other atmospheric perils are represented within our Machine Learning-based global modeling framework.
  • Develop and maintain robust codebases, ensuring best practices in version control (e.g., Git), code review, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with computational scientists to optimize workflows and ensure efficient deployment of atmospheric models at scale.
