Our team operates at the intersection of advanced AI and Information Retrieval, with the mission of building a comprehensive AI-powered Search & Knowledge Discovery platform that supports Elsevier's global product offerings. We work across the entire spectrum of information retrieval, from rapid discovery and prototyping to enterprise-grade knowledge discovery solutions. This enables researchers to achieve their goals faster within the Elsevier portfolio of products. Our recent work includes a GenAI platform that powers ScopusAI & ScienceDirect AI products.
We are seeking an innovative and passionate engineer with a minimum of six years of experience. The ideal candidate enjoys problem-solving at scale, values automation and efficiency, and views infrastructure as another aspect of software engineering. Our goal is simple: Change the world by providing researchers with tools that accelerate research output and its impact. If this resonates with you, we invite you to join us.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to our shared search platform.
- Building world-class search systems to enhance users’ search experience.
- Automating processes to assist other teams.
- Collaborating on new ideas to optimize systems and engineering workflows.
- Building relationships with other engineering teams to identify and solve their pain points.
- Working across the stack, from development to infrastructure.
About you:
- You are proficient in writing production-ready code. We use AWS, but experience with GCP or Azure is also acceptable, especially if you are competent with Kubernetes.
- You have experience with CI/CD and infrastructure as code.
- You view devops as a mindset, not a role. We operate under the motto “we write it, we run it” and are willing to engage in infrastructure work.
- You are passionate about creating high-quality, testable code. We write and design our own tests, measure untested things, and fix any problems we find.
- You are a team player who leaves your ego at the door. We value learning from each other and making decisions as a team.
Big Plus:
- You have experience with GenAI Applications.
- You are familiar with Lucene, or have experience with Elasticsearch, Solr, or any other search engine, and have experience with Semantic Search.
