What you'll do

As the Product Manager of SmartShop Services, you'll be responsible for shaping the future of our backend, platform and data outcomes for the wider Smartshop team.  Driving transformations that redefine our architecture and lead to best in practice technology.

Working in agile teams, you'll forge strong partnerships with your in-house engineering team, and key stakeholders, collaborating seamlessly to bring your vision to life. Working cross-functionally, influencing roadmaps and spearheading large-scale initiatives that shape the future of Sainsbury's.

In this role, you're a visionary. Collaborating closely with key stakeholders, you'll be a key player in crafting our technology vision, make data driven decisions, and owning the Smartshop Services roadmap. Millions of customers use Smartshop in our stores every year, so you will also be obsessed with the customer, understanding how backend innovation can benefit customers in store. 

But that's not all. You'll dive deep into understanding our technical needs and devising strategies that strike the perfect balance between setting us up for the future, and delivering stable BAU performance. With your knack for creative problem-solving and a passion for experimentation, you'll push boundaries, constantly seeking ways to enhance the Smartshop services.

 

What You Need To Do

  • Partner with our awesome engineers, and a broader cross functional team to re-design our backend services, moving Smartshop to the next level. 
  • Work as part of a cross functional scrum team building innovative and resilient technology for our in-store experience. 
  • You’ll prioritise opportunities for the product, keeping in mind value delivery, efficiency savings and technical foundations.
  • You’ll coordinate continuous evaluation to validate that products work as designed and that value is delivered.
  • You’ll collaborate with colleagues across Sainsbury’s to determine the product strategy and roadmap, balancing short-term needs with long-term technical scalability and innovation. 

 

How You Will Succeed

  • You are able to work effectively with an in-house engineering scrum team.
  • You’re relentlessly focused on understanding, anticipating and exceeding our customers needs.
  • You are able to collaborate effectively with other teams, customers and stakeholders where necessary – both technical and non-technical. 
  • You actively utilise priority decision making tools and frameworks to inform team priorities and focus
  • You can build a roadmap and articulate a product vision using tools and methods, such as a vision board
  • You’re technically curious – you ask the right questions to drive better solutions and can translate between customer requirements and technology delivery
  • You get data – using product metrics to prioritise effectively and seek out the right information to make strategic decisions
  • You keep an eye on the commercials – get what makes a product viable and can articulate the business benefits
  • You’re a team player, always up for contributing to building a great culture at Sainsbury’s tech
