About the role

As a Software Development Engineer (P3) at Zillow, you are a key contributor to your team’s success. You independently deliver non-trivial features and improvements, design solutions to well-scoped problems, and help teammates, especially more junior engineers, succeed. You are respected for the quality of your work and your thoughtful participation in team discussions. This role is about mastering your craft, deepening your technical impact, and building the foundation for future growth.

  • Design, build, and maintain high-quality, well-tested software that solves real customer and business problems.

  • Independently deliver clearly scoped features and enhancements with reliable quality and on-time execution.

  • Operate services in production, resolving complex issues with minimal guidance and helping shape on-call practices, dashboards, metrics, and runbooks.

  • Contribute to system and feature architecture discussions, identifying trade-offs and documenting design decisions.

  • Communicate effectively with teammates, product partners, and stakeholders—through design docs, code reviews, and day-to-day collaboration.

  • Participate actively in agile team ceremonies, planning, and retrospectives.

  • Identify opportunities for technical improvements (efficiency, reliability, customer experience) within your team’s scope and bring them forward.
