This vacancy is for a Project Engineering Lead (PEL) to lead and coordinate the engineering effort on the Antenna Power Supply and Control (APSC) within the MK 2 radar system. The ASPC Project Engineering Lead will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of the APSC unit with the functionality required by the programme along with the required DVT evidence from the supplier along with the certification of the Software and Firmware.
The PEL will take full responsibility for all technical aspects and cost and schedule performance for the subcontract. The role requires strong leadership and team management skills, a good technical understanding of military product development and lifecycle management, good technical problem-solving skills, and good project management skills including estimating, cost control, people and skill allocation, and work planning / scheduling.
The successful candidate will be an excellent technical leader and ideally have experience in Line Replaceable Item development and system integration of high-performance radar system.
What you'll bring:
Provide leadership for the APSC work required for Mk2 Step 2 development, encompassing both technical and business aspects. Liaise with all levels of the business as necessary to ensure clear vision and management of the APSC. Act as figurehead and represent the progress on the Sub contracted LRI and delivery of the LRI and Verification evidence along with compliance statements
Ensure any technical query from suppliers are answered in a timely manner to ensure build and test meet deliveries to Leonardo.
Ensure qualification activities carried out by the supplier align with the certification requirements of the system at Leonardo
Manage compliance of the design solution against the overall customer requirement.
Provide expert business oversight and guidance on all job and team management aspects pertinent to the area and role, including but not limited to estimation and bids, maintaining a forward load prediction, skill-mix analysis and raising of vacancies / team development as required, job and work-package management including job execution to cost, design to unit production cost, and risk management.
Provide vision and direction for the group and ensure effective liaison with other business structures such as IPT management, and Engineering.
Work with Chief Engineers to resolve technical or programme conflicts.
Evaluate, mitigate and manage engineering risks and identify any opportunities
Coach and mentor other engineers as appropriate
Promote a culture of best practise, knowledge sharing and exploitation within the Typhoon Processor team.
What you’ll bring:
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have a first degree or higher qualification in Electronics or a related discipline. The following skills and experience are required:
Strong team leadership skills preferably evidenced by a good track record of successful team management in a challenging business environment
Strong technical management skills and experience including strategy, management of design and development, risk management, design for manufacturing, design margin estimation and management, and problem solving.
Strong skills and experience in the business aspects of product development, including estimating, bid preparation, work planning and scheduling, cost control, DTUPC, and supplier liaison and management.
Good understanding and experience of the design of high-performance military products for series production.
Good understanding of Lifecycle Management. Good working knowledge (& experience) of work-package delivery – preferably across the full engineering lifecycle.
Typically meets the requirement for registration as a chartered engineer and be an active member of a relevant professional body.
Experience of Hardware design and Power Supplies would be beneficial
