Solution Architect - Infrastructure

Role Purpose

The Infrastructure Solution Architect plays a key role in shaping, designing and governing end-to-end technical solutions across Admiral’s Platforms & Infrastructure landscape.  Working within the Solution Architecture function, you will translate business outcomes into robust, scalable, secure and cost-efficient architectures aligned to our Roadmaps, working with the Lead Solution Architect, Senior Engineers, Enterprise Architecture and Heads of Technology.  Ensuring alignment to Enterprise Principles, Roadmaps and Vision.

You will act as a bridge between Engineering and Architecture, championing best practices.  You will guide delivery teams through design decisions and contribute directly to the evolution of Admiral’s technology strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design of robust, secure and scalable end-to-end infrastructure, platform and EUC solutions.
• Ensure all solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements.
• Produce high quality architecture artefacts.
• Provide architectural governance and alignment across infrastructure, platforms, cloud and EUC domains.
• Identify opportunities to modernise, rationalise and simplify legacy platforms and EUC services.
• Partner with the Lead Solution Architect and Enterprise Architects to evolve domain strategies for infrastructure, hybrid cloud and EUC modernisation.
• Proactively manage architectural risks, technical debt, dependencies and constraints across infrastructure and EUC environments.
• Collaborate closely with delivery teams to ensure architecture intent is delivered effectively and efficiently.
• Contribute to and maintain the architecture repository and patterns.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Solutions Architect who can design and govern complex hybrid-platform solutions, operate confidently across on-premises and cloud environments and help drive modern, scalable and secure solutions.

Essential:

• Proven experience of designing end-to-end infrastructure, platform or EUC solutions in a complex enterprise environment.
• Strong understanding of architectural frameworks (TOGAF or similar).
• Experience producing high quality HLDs, LLDs, decision records and other architectural outputs.
• Strong knowledge of hybrid-cloud environments (Google Cloud Platform, Azure & On-Premises Datacentres).
• Strong experience with core infrastructure: Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory / Entra ID, networking fundamentals, storage and virtualisation technologies.
• Experience with EUC technologies such as:
  • Device management.
  • Virtual desktop environments.
  • Endpoint security, compliance and policy enforcement.
• Understanding of modern engineering practices, Infrastructure-as-Code, automation pipelines, monitoring and observability.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and help to guide delivery teams.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience managing architectural risk, technical debt and design governance.

Desirable:

• Practical experience with deploying cloud infrastructure, cloud governance or cloud-native services.
• Experience with containerisation / orchestration.
• Knowledge of modern API gateway products.
• Exposure to regulatory or compliance-driven environments.
• Understanding of data governance, classification and retention requirements.
• Experience contributing to architectural repositories, reusable patterns or design libraries.
• Previous experience within scaled agile or value-stream-aligned organisations.
