Packaging Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Packaging Engineer to join our dynamic team! In this role, you will provide expert guidance to internal teams, banners (B&Q, Screwfix, Castorama ETC..), and external vendors on all aspects of structural packaging. You will be responsible for project managing packaging activities, advising on sustainability initiatives, and identifying opportunities for packaging improvements, cost reductions, and simplifications. • Captures the needs of brand, consumer, product experience and constraints of the supply chain and turns them into clear packaging designs that are right first time. I identify beneficial opportunities whenever possible.
• Defines upfront project success criteria (innovation, sustainability, affordability and efficiency) to drive clarity throughout each project.
• Brief suppliers and leads the development of technical solutions through proof-of-concept to production and implementation of each project.
• Delivery of technical design that ensure the ‘end of life’ recycling of our packaging materials have been considered for all our markets and customers.

• Structural packaging experience as a Packaging Engineer or Technologist, preferably within the retail or packaging sectors, along with a strong understanding of packaging production processes and materials.
• CAD experience (ArtiosCAD/CAPE) and strong packaging prototyping skills are desirable, along with industry knowledge of primary and transit packaging materials, innovations, and trends.

• Knowledge of how structural packaging improves quality and aligns with Kingfisher targets, alongside an understanding of packaging sustainability drivers and goals.

• Takes knowledge and applies it in practice to improve packaging quality, drive sustainability credentials (reduce, remove, reuse), increase sales, increase profitability, and drive down cost.

• Must demonstrate a good insight of how packaging contributes to customer experience and purchase decision making.
