Here at Optum UK, we are looking for a Technology Director to join our Integrated Care Platforms team. This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll have the autonomy, trust, and support to shape and drive our technology strategy, ensuring the effective and efficient use of technology to meet our business and customer goals.

Now is an exciting time to join Optum UK as we continue to modernise and transform our healthcare technology landscape. You’ll play a pivotal role in driving not only technical innovation but also cultural change—bringing people with you on the journey and building a high-performing, forward-thinking engineering function.

This role spans the full technology lifecycle—from strategy and planning to operations, infrastructure, and vendor management. While we’re looking for someone with deep expertise, we’re also committed to your growth and development.

We’re more than just a healthcare technology provider—we’re making a real difference. Everyone here has an impact. Come and be part of our journey

What you’ll do

You’ll lead the development and execution of our technology strategy, ensuring it aligns with business goals and customer needs. Infrastructure, systems, and operations will fall under your remit, with a focus on maintaining security, scalability, and performance. You’ll be instrumental in growing and mentoring multi-disciplinary agile teams, cultivating a culture rooted in innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Strategic partnerships and vendor relationships will be actively managed, while new technologies are evaluated to keep us at the forefront of healthcare IT.

Other key responsibilities and accountabilities will include:

  • Growing, leading, coaching, and mentoring multi-disciplinary, agile technology teams to drive performance and develop not just technical capabilities, but careers.
  • Establishing a high-performing culture that emphasises innovation, growth, and development.
  • Providing technical and strategic feedback on projects, drawing on your expertise to drive continuous improvement.
  • Developing a deep understanding of our customer settings and applying this insight to build high-quality healthcare products.
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams to identify, address, and resolve technology-related incidents promptly.
  • Fostering strategic partnerships with technology providers and staying up to date with their product offerings and roadmaps.

Who you’ll be

We’re looking for a proven technologist and passionate people leader—someone who thrives on driving change, delivering results, and inspiring others. You’ll be confident in your ability to influence, challenge the status quo, and build trusted relationships across all levels of the organisation.

Key skills and experience we’re looking for include:

  • Proven experience in leading large-scale technology teams, ideally across multiple locations.
  • A strong background in agile software engineering and modern development practices.
  • Experience in leading digital transformation and modernisation programmes.
  • Deep understanding of architecture standards and scalable infrastructure.
  • Ability to manage the integration and migration of legacy systems to modern, cloud-based solutions (AWS preferred).
  • Knowledge of API technologies, tools, and protocols (REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, OAuth).
  • A solid grasp of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Experience working in or with healthcare technology is a strong advantage.

Our Vision and Your Impact

Our vision is to be the leading provider of innovative healthcare technology that improves people’s lives. Are you ready to be part of that vision?

Working with our customers, we’re leading the way in delivering patient-centred, connected, digitally enabled health and care services. Our solutions are used across all health and care settings—from GP surgeries and community care to high street pharmacies, hospitals, and specialist services. Ranked among the top HealthTech organisations in the UK, we’re committed to building the next generation of healthcare technology that truly makes a difference.
