The purpose of the Scrum Master is to work with technical and non-technical teams to guide
and support them in agile processes. The key measure of success in this role is the continuous
improvement of agile teams, measured by increased velocity/throughput, delivery quality, and
team member satisfaction. The management and implementation of agile methodologies for
specific programmes or initiatives should result in reduced time to market.
Principle responsibilities
• Responsible for ensuring that the teams adhere to the agile/scrum practices prescribed
by the VM Digital Agile Practice.
• Organize and conduct scrum events, including sprint planning meetings, sprint
retrospectives, product demos and daily scrums.
• Partner with Product Owners to achieve high-quality and timely deliverables based on
highest business value.
• Manage sprint planning and execution, including providing clear visibility into sprint
status.
• Participate in roadmap planning and scheduling by providing scrum team statistics,

identifying project dependencies, and creating velocity and delivery forecasts.
• Ensure high throughput of development teams by identifying and mitigating potential
issues and roadblocks.
• Work with stakeholders ensure product backlog is prioritized, refined, and detailed to
avoid any downtime, ambiguity or rework.
• Facilitate issue resolution within the team, including safeguarding scrum team from
external influences or diversions.
• Assist with backlog maintenance and prioritization of defect resolution.
• Coach scrum team members in making appropriate commitments through story selection
and task definition.
• Create and maintain sprint and product burndowns, velocity metrics and projections, and
forecasts in order to demonstrate transparency and openness, and to enable timely
adjustments.
• Contribute to the rollout of agile methodologies by contributing to training and coaching
of team members and management.
• Works hands-on with scrum and Kanban teams, supporting and guiding them in ways of
working and agile deliveries.
• Supports and collaborates with other agile practitioners, managers, and project
managers to ensure alignment and standardization of agile practices and team
deliverables.
• Liaises with the Product Owner and delivery leads to understand strategic priorities, key
business & technical objectives, and product roadmaps.

Required qualifications/experience
• Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), and/or
Certified/Professional Product Owner accreditation; or equivalent experience as a Scrum
Master.
• Degree-level education (strongly preferred, not essential)
• Demonstrated understanding of agile and lean principles, and value-based delivery;
minimum of 2 years hands-on experience with agile, scrum, or lean methodologies.
• Experience in one or more aspects of information technology delivery (software
design/development, IT architecture, project or programme management).
• Experience in the telecommunications, broadband or OSS/BSS domains a plus.
